Yer mate your options are to install the RB25DET, should bolt in, I know they are dimensionally the same as RB30.
Otherwise put RB25 head on RB30 (better for 4wd, more torque) however its not straight bolt on. There is a lot of info about this on www.calaisturbo.com and other sites regarding the RB30DET.
Just a note on gearboxes. Im not 100% sure on this but compairing the gearbox models i noticed the patrol (im guessin TB42 since people complain about the RB30 boxes) have same box as the RB26DETT and RB25DET engine, reputably one of the strongest factory boxes around.
Get a RB26 bellhousing onto a patrol box (different ratios) = strong RB30 box potentailly.

I have a rb26 33gtr engine in my patrol with a MASSIVE single turbo it made 505.5hp at the treads and yes gearboxes are a problem, everytime u change into third hard u will smash it, other than that u will have dramas with bearings in the box the horsepower just cains the box and bearings get noisy as.
I am in the proces of build a rb30 26 head with a gt47r should be good for 750wheel hp trying to finish it for 4wd Expo in may,

im only chasing 350 hp at the treads. can bellhousing of both boxes be opened up and the rb25 gearset donate the goodstuff so it dont blow up as easy as the rb30 box?
the car will be used for weekend work and the odd comp, maybe even a squirt down the 1/4. would i be better off using an auto and modifying it to handle the power? (id preffer a manual tho)

to start off with i will be using a gq rb30 box i have like 4 spare ones now, the gearset inside a gq rb30 box is of the same quality as a rb25 r33 box if u sit them side by side only difference in the two is the rear shaft length,
i have a rb25 box as i thought they would be different also but no they are they same inside, i have a adaptor plate getting made now to go from rb26/rb30 to tb42 box as they are alot stronger, hopefully they have it finished for me by the time my engine is back but cant see that happening, if you are interested i might be able to get a couple of plates made and sell one to you let me no. i wouldnt go auto as they do drain a fair bit of power and cant really drift it haha

Here is some food for thought .
The RD2.8t Diesel engine has the same head stud pattern as the RB26 twincam head.
High oil pressure pump
and oil cooler.
Full big end bearing cradle insted of single caps.
It has the water and oil ports with bango fittings to run a Turbo.
The same bottom end as the RB30 so all the go fast bitts fit.

GQ with big nuts
the box behind the 3.0 patrol may be good in a VL turbo ( thats what the box is from) but when you put it behind a 3.0 in a 2.5 tonne truck, then it becomes a very shit box.juls wrote:Yer mate your options are to install the RB25DET, should bolt in, I know they are dimensionally the same as RB30.

Have you tried an OS giken gear set or one of the many other gear sets for those boxes?choppa1978 wrote:to start off with i will be using a gq rb30 box i have like 4 spare ones now, the gearset inside a gq rb30 box is of the same quality as a rb25 r33 box if u sit them side by side only difference in the two is the rear shaft length,
