Different discs??? Will it fit???

Post by brighty »

Want to put some twin piston calipers from an EFI model GQ onto a standard GQ. I've found out that they will bolt straight up, but will the difference mean I have to run the standard discs or the EFI model discs??

The only difference I can see is that the actual disc thickness, where the pads clamp onto it, is 6mm thicker which will in effect back space the disc at the actual caliper by this amount.... And also that the disc is 11mm bigger in diameter too.... I'm going to measure the normal disc today to see if it would foul on the rim with the bigger EFI ones... crossing fingers it won't!!! ;)

Here is a diagram I done up showing the differences with them.

When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!

you'll need to check for rubbing etc on the pads, the pads won't last all that long if they rub all the time plus you'll end up with brake fade quicker.

due to the extra heat already in the pad and discs.

The overall size is larger as well.

I would think you will need to fit the larger discs as the pads may fall out. This can happen when discs are used beyond there wear limits. 6mm would be far more than the wear limit of the larger disc caliper combo.
