HZJ75 9 1/2" front diff conversion
Does anyone know of any problems converting a solid axle HZJ back to the HJ front diff? I want to replace the whole diff to go back to the big centre. I can deal with any brake fluid proportion problems if any. Cheers
Re: diff
the later CV's don't fit in the early housing. it might be possible to clearance the housing to fit the bigger CV's but it's a pointless mission.tobie wrote:g'day mick

i have seen before using a early 75x center and housing and putting later model 75x cv to make a strong diff
will bolt straight up
There may be clearance issues with the diff and the bottom of the motor - the engine is slightly more central and probably sits a bit lower in a HZJ/FZJ than in a FJ/HJ. If you have some lift involved it probably isn't a problem. frame and spring spacing is the same. might have to fiddle with prop shaft flanges. Personally I think it's a pointless swap, there is plenty of high pinion front diffs to be had out of 80's and 7x's and the 8" is arguably as strong or stronger than the 9" with less weight and better clearance.
cheers

The early diff' assembly will bolt straight in with no problem's but t/shaft
need's to be changed.
The smaller diff' fitted to hzj75 and 80's are much stronger than a hilux
I'd rebuild 5 rear diff's to 1 front on vehicles that see a fair bit of offroad use.
