vitara aux power (pics)

Post by atari4x4 »

i have been sorting out aux power distribution for rear power, spotlights & rooflights, with the zook being smallish i had to use what space i had.

i have used this kind of set up before and always had good results, using a fuse block from an VP commodore i picked up from U-Pullit the local pic a part. i knocked up a little bracket to pick up a captive nut used by the washer bottle & using the original fuse block mount. next will be brackets for relays and final wiring for accessories.

more pics to come later for relay mounts

the fuse block has a main feed which is fused @ 60amp then there are 4 outputs that can be fused from 10amp up to 40amp and a spot for a spare fuse

Looks good Atari.

I know your vit is a 2 litre, is that the standard spot for your battery, on the passenger side? I amwanting to setup a second battery and my standard spot is on the drivers side.

I very much like the idea of a second fuse block, may have to do that myself one day to tidy up the spaghetti wiring under the bonnet at the moment   . Not too much space when you're looking at a second battery along with all of the associated stuff and a winch control box as well   .

Cheers

You should try doing a dual battery in an X90.... eeeuuw! I ended up mounting the aux' in the boot... an absolute shit getting the cable back there, had to dismantled all the passenger side trim :bad-words:

Swapped out the baby-Vit crank battery for a small Optima... super-squeezy  but it's in
DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender

that is the standard spot for the battery in the 2.0L vitara, i'm am planning on squeezing a 2nd battery on the drivers side like the 1.6L vitara & increasing the size of the orginal cranking battery, using the fuse block this way makes it neat & easy & should look factory. with it all loomed up & covered in condute it won't have that "birds nest" look that can quickly happen when wiring in mulitple accessories & it will be a stand alone loom seperate from all the original wiring but neatly intergrated.
i have made a bracket that will mount to the fire wall & picks up a captive nut and will mount 4 relays, spot lights, roof lights, rock lights & a spare for the air compressor when it comes, power to the rear will be taken from the fuse block & distributed again maybe using another fuse block & relays. all rear accessories will just have a "trigger wire" running forward to in dash switches. rear accessories will be 2x 12v outlets, rear interior lights & external work light.

This is how i have done mine in the back. The outlet is from my vit frontcut and was labeled as a 10amp socket.

i was looking at doing something very similar when i get my drawers in the rear of my vitara. i like the idea of having the + & - terminals there aswell. looks very neat i guess i'm going to jaycar to pick up a circit breaker & stuff.

Atari

How big is your battery? Is it the standard size or is it a larger one?

ie what CCA rating is it? The standard one for my Suzuki is only 350CCA, so is not coping too well with the XD9000 lb winch (only used it once in anger since putting it in)

Cheers

goldey,
the battery is the not the original one, not sure when it was replaced but it is a 550CCA & there is room to go bigger or squeeze 2 smaller batteries in the stock location.

been laying cable the last couple of days and making looms up for all my aux power & accessories. ended up with a few looms that went in place quite well, got looms running down the rubber trim that runs front to back on the vitara's into the engine bay for the roof lights. got a nice thick power feed going to the rear left corner with trigger wires for another fuse block & relays. i still need to create a loom for spot lights, rock lights & compressor. still need to do the rear section with rear lights, aux power outlets & interior light loomage. not sure about the way the switches went together but it might grow on me, or its back to the workshop...........
