HELP NEEDED for first time Pajero buyer (1992 model)
Hi all , I am in Tasmania & currently looking at buying a Pajero for the first time . The Pajero I am wanting is located in Sydney which does not worry me flying over to pick it up. NOW to the Pajero I am keen on buying -: It is a December 1992 Pajero , 3.0 litre V6 , GLS , 5 speed , 7 Seater Wagon , factory sliding sunroof model. Now the only drawback is it has 258,648 kms on the Speedo. NOW is this model Pajero prone to any problems , if so what , & being high kms what sort of kms do you get out of one of these engines before you run into problems or they need a re-build . Do these sunroofs leak & finally what are they like for comfort & off road performance & all round realiability. MANY THANKS- TRENT.
How much ? Mines a 94' NJ with about the same Ks . Im finding every thing is starting to wear out. Just replaced all four brake rotors and pads for $550. You'll need to do timing belt water pump maybe tappets/lash adjusters at 300,000 kms $1200 just for parts( do all the water hoses , big and small ) so how much of a bargain is it ?
NJ's are better buys than NH. Mitsu made replacing parts easyer and cheaper. IE electric window winders. + other improvements.

make sure you check the sunroof frame for rust. if it's to bad you could have some leaking problems. With that many km on the clock you may want to get it checked out before handing over any cash. my NH has done 225,000km and doesn't burn any oil so you may be lucky.

Hi,
I flew from Melb to Sydney to buy a Gen 2 Pajero around xmas, and was promised perfect running order no oil leaks etc. When the guy picked me up from the airport first thing i noticed was the diff whine.
Then when we arrieved at his place, i got him to pop the bonnet and it had an oil leak. When questioned about it, he said it wasn't an oil leak,??? I then looked under the car and it was leaking water, may have been from the AC, but who knows.
The pictures I veiwed I found out later were over a year old, and the car was nothing like the 'as new' pics i had seen.
I politely told him he was a idiot and had wasted my time and money.
If I was you, buy something in your own backyard. You can look at it and drive it, commiting to trusting what someone says as true, was just stupid. Save your Airfare and return petrol money and put it towards something local.
I ended up buying a Gen 1, at the same price, with full eletrics, a Moon roof, OME suspension, and duel batteries. It also came with a winch bar, and NO OIL LEAKS or Whines.
Goodluck!

Take a deep breathe, have a long hard look at urself, then give urself an uppercut for even considering the idea,we have an nh, with similar km's, and it just eats money, head gaskets alternator, timing, leaky sunroof, now the abs has died, i have had 3 pajero's,( 2 were na, and nb models, and were good alround family wagons, that would go anywhere) i now have a hilux, and the missus uses the pajero around town, thats about all its good for. I know this is quite probably just a lemon, but this model is renownd for having problems
