Mulisha,

I too have a SWB Maverick and I have just spent the last few months saving and buying parts for a suspension lift. My brother also has a GQ Patrol LWB with a 7" lift and I want to keep up with him. So I bought 5" coils as I wanted to avoid a body lift because the GQ's are famous for body cracks etc, so this way instead of 3" coil and 2" BL I went 5" coils as they were the same price as 4" at the time of buying them. I also bought adjustable TDog panhards F+R, transmission spacers from TDog as well, extended brake lines, proportion bracket for the rear diff. ProComp shocks, King springs from TJM, Toyota offset rims which I already had, Snake Racing adjustable upper & lower trailing arms and castor plates.

All the parts are going in on the 10th of March, a mate of mine who I met on here is helping me put it all in...I'm expecting the rear driveshaft to hate me, but I'll worry about it later as it's a weekend toy.

I also plan on getting either 33 or 35" MT MTZ's 33" = $310ea & 35" = $338ea from TJM. But I'll borrow some 33's and 35's and see how they work....

Braaap did you buy king springs or tjm springs that are made by king as tjm 5" springs are not 5" lift

also a note on panhard lengths a 6" lift will need approx 18mm longer front panhard n 28mm longer rear panhard so dont know where 1" per 1" of lift came from, or are you talking offset in track cos 1" of track per lift would make a patrol very wide with 10 inch of lift that or Ive missed something

as you go higher, you have to counter the now higher COG with a wider wheel track to aid stability.

say you have a 5" lift on d shorty, Ideally you would need to install 2 1/2" wheel spacers on every wheel or get new rims made with the 2 1/2" extra offset built in.

1" wider per inch high is a crude measurement but it works.

bear in mind that this will be much more noticeable on a shorty than a LWB.

The TJM coils will probably be about a 3" lift measure from the top of the top of the rim to the edge of outer gaurd or flare then fit the tjm coils n see if it comes up 125mm, it will proberly only come up 90mm or some thing simmilar. Dobbinson are the only springs that I've found to be a true lift, havent tried Lovell or ride pro yet but been told they are aswell
Last time I fitted a 65mm into a gu it come up 26mm in the front n 45mm in the rear
Most people that fit 4" dobbo's get 5" of lift
The track width increase sujested by jessie928 sounds about rite but with the wide track of the patrols we've never had stability issues that require that much track width, all my trucks run gq or gu diffs with out spacers n std toyota offset rims 15x8 or 16x8 also run gq ti 3 spoke mags, series 4 gu std steel 16x8 n series 4 std gu 17x8 5 spoke mags. We have 5 gqs shorty, single cab, extra cab, duel cab n wagon, lifts from 4" to 9" n tyre from 33"to 37" nothing wider then 12.5"
The track width increase would be important on a narrow track vehicle like 40-70s lc zook or similar vehicles that are prone to falling over

Kit has been ordered

My kit that i have ordered is"

3" dobision springs $135 pair
Procomp es9000 (nitro filled) red boots $540 for four
Iron Man Castors bushs $130 (has different degree adjustments)
Gearbox Spacer $60
RTC Toughdog Steering dampner $165

so for a total of $1165 i'm pretty happy...

I should have it friday and tyres go on saturday morning $1220 fitted balnced etc there 33x12.5 Micky Thompson MTZ's.

Now fitting this all i was told i need a press for the castor bushes :?

What else won't i be able to do myself? Becuase i wanted to try fit it all friday night so i can drive it Saturday to get the new tyres ... :?

Also if i can fit the bushes myself how do i go about it and what if i drive the car without them for a weekend?

Also anyone got pics were this gearbox spacer go to go and is it a hard bastartd to get in?

Thanks alot

call the tire place and ask if they'll do castor bushes as part of the wheel alignment (wont be cheap)

you can get them out by either burning out the rubber and hacksawing the outer casing, or by getting the right sized tube and bashing them with a hammer.... both ways usually cause lots of :bad-words:  :bad-words:

getting them in a vice and a couple of blocks of wood usually works to get them back in providing you do it square and use some nice thin grease.

your car will be driveable without them, it'll just get alot of bump steer or maybe feel like its wandering or maybe you'll get some mild - hardcore vibrations, or maybe all those plus more :finger:

Thanks mate

What type of press do they have to use?

Also how hard are these arms to take off to get the new bushs fitted into to?

I might take the arms off get the old ones taken out and new ones put in tommrow or friday and then fit them back on and lift the car friday arvo.

When u said it's not cheap how much am i looking at to get the old ones out and new ones in??

Cheers

My local 4wd place only charged an hours labour to remove both front radius arms, replace the bushes, including the ones at the rear of the rod and replace the arms....(I had previously removed the sway bar) $80 for the labour....well worth it and no :x :x :x

You'd want to be careful removing both radius arms at the one time...very little holding the diff in place with them gone and the springs under tension.

I also did both front and rear panhard rod bushes as well at an earlier time

I wouder if my new tyres or new steering stabliser would get stuffed up over a weekend say doing 400kms (max) without fitting these bushes becuase i would rather get them done the week after becuase i reakon they wouldn't have time to do this week.

Cheers

if your doing your shocks you may as well spend the extra few bucks and get a new stabilizer... if your car is still stock it will be cactus.

so i doubt you'll damage it anymore :finger:

Look at the crossmember under the gearbox. At each end there are four bolts holding it on. Between the crossmember and chassis there are two spacers already, this is where the extra spacers will go.

Put a jack under the crossmember, take out the bolts, lower the crossmember, put in the spacers, put in the new bolts if you got some with the spacers and do it all back up. Will take about ten minutes if you are competent with tools.

Mate, thats an awesome price.

I'm getting an OME dakar 2" lift for my MK and its costing...
Front spring pair $264
Rear spring pair $315
OME Nitrocharger shocks $410
And misc including bushes, u-bolts
Total $1127!!

The steering dampener was an extra 95 but i have a new one already.

And my quote for Mickey T MTZ's was exactly the same $305 a tire. Where you doing your business through?

A carton of good beer is a cheap price to pay for pressing the bushes out and the new ones in, let alone XXXX.

A week of driving it like that won't do much, but it will wonder all over the road at higher speeds.

Armour everything up... you want to be able to slide over things.

Do a rear quater chop, wrap a bar around. Get some sliders on nice and high. Get a nice tube bar and tuck it up nice and high. If you feel extra keen throw a whole bunch of bash plates on underneath to further help with sliding over things.

Will be what I do if I get my time over.

Also with that lift combination you will have more than enough clearance for 35's. I run 35's with 4" suspension no gaurd chop up front and a 1/4 chop in the rear. Could even fit 36" pedes with a bit of a chop upfront.

Like I said I would never do anything over a 2" suspension lift in a shorty again.
Is this simply and purley cauz of shortys are a little unstable? if i had a swb i reckon id but a 5 inch suspension, 2 inch body, cut the guards a lil and chcuk some 38 rubber under there. but thats just me... im all bout the looks

You could just go the 3" lift, guard cut and fit 37s. There is no need to go 5" lift.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

You don't need to sit it higher to get more articulation, just run longer shocks.
