I have a 4.4 v8 in my 2 door Rangie had heaps of probs with the old stromberg, have been told a 350 holley bolts staight on, Its this true and is this the best carby for the job?

Holley is not the best carb but does give good power and economy, i would think that a rebuilt stromberg would be better off road than a holley even though i had a 350 on my 2 previous rangies with good results and a 450 4brl on my 4.4 at the moment.

If you intend to use your rangie off-road don't fit a holley to it. You will regret it. I have a 350 holley fitted to my old 77 rangie on the road it was fine off road, when in the tricky stuff it would flood, yes you can lower the float level, fit defectors etc but nothing really fixed the problem. Some people will tell you to fit it backwards, great then it floods going down hill instead of uphill have you ever lost power steering brakes going down a technical hill. I did purchase a quadrajet but deregistered the car before working out how to fit and ended up selling it - I'm not sure whether this would have actually fixed the problem.
I do however have a P76 manifold with the standard twin carbs grafted onto it, this is currently sitting in the box in the back of the car. Playing with the idea of putting the 4.4 into my 4 door rangie with the EFI instead of the 3.9
