hey everyone i have a 1986 pajero swb stock everything, 300,000km's had an engine & gearbox rebuild at like 250,000km's or somthing i recently bought a new carbie and had the timing chain done with a new oil pump and before the new carbie i was getting 300-350km per tank some highway and some around town driving, and after the new carbie im only getting 250-300km i was just wondering if this sort of mileage is common for this year model etc.., if not i was wondering if their is anythin i can do to improve the fuel ecconomy such as change of oil brands or somthing? any ideas would be welcome............

yeah mate im getting bout, 400km per tank (in a 2.6 lwb 86)

mind u drive it like a granny, and i get round an extra 100km from a tank.


also round town the engine has got to work hard getting the paj up to speed time and time again.

i noticed a big difference when i just slowed down a bit

at a guess id say your new carby is set up different to the old one.

DO you have more power ? If not, maybe you have a vaccumm leak or your timing is out .

Have a play round with a few minor things to see if you can get it to improve.

My old EFI camira had the plug gap set at 1.1mm instead of aboiut.8-.9 . had trouble ideleing but it used to go heaps better. My old carollas timing advace was down by ear and used to be great on fuel, etc as they run at peak performance ( lol can i use that word )

just an update on the fuel ecconomy bizzo.., i had a play with the dizzy advancement and retardation.., and i found that it was too retarded so i set it to where it normally should be its got quicker pickup more power but im yet to see if theirs any improvement on fuel ecconomy as i just did it this afternoon :P...
