SUPERCHARGING A 3B DIESEL TOYOTA ENGING...PLEASE HELP
I have a BJ73 Cruiser with a non turbo 3B diesel engine that i am thinking of supercharging. I am more interested in supercharging my cruiser rather than turboing it, i want the added power over a larger and smoother range rather than only having the extra power at higher engine revs. If anyone can give me some info on doing this or weather or not it can acctualy be done it would be great as i havent really had alot to do with supercharging before.[/i][/b]
My cruiser might not be Pretty, it might not be Fast, but, IT'S BLOODY TOUGH!!!
Of course it can be done! anything can be done.
It all depends on what you are wanting or expecting from it. A supercharger will give you boost at idle and therefore your low down torque is increases significantly from the word go.
The super charger uses power to make power so you want get as greater improvement in power for the same boost as you would with a turbo.
The supercharger has no lag effect which is another bonus.
You'll probably find the supercharger will give you less benefit higher in the rev range.
I run a commodore v6 supercharger on my stock 2H. only about 5 psi boost ATM but it was a very noticable improvement down low. Overall my peak power is the same as pre supercharger but it peaks a lot lower and for longer.
Fuel set up, intame air temp and exhaust temp are the crucial things. Do these right from the start and it'll be trouble free.
Remember that comressing air heats it up, intercoolers are beneficial for superchargers too!
