Adjustable original shocks

Post by South »

Hey peeps,

Have blown a rear shock, original adjustable one, and would like to replace it, well all of them actually. Has anyone got a recent price on the units?

Does anyone know if they can be rebuilt or not?

Rang up and found out this morning.

$740ea for the front
$400ea for the rear

Hmmm, blew a rear one, so *might* get both rears, and replace front with Bilstein... or should I just go Bilstein all round? I'm prepared to pay good money, just not ~$2200

Yes that is pricey. I woudn't bother with the ranchos*, your idea of something with quality like the bilsteins is a much better idea.

* personal experience with ranchos. reliability issues (5  shocks replaced on the same vehicle with standard suspension) and they control absorbing of bumps well and the adjustablilty on that side of things is great but are too soft on rebound.

Still undecided, I like the fact that when the rear gets loaded up, that you can stiffen up the shocks to reduce the bouncy bounce! however when that was done, the front end would then be too stiff...

Might get 2 elec rears, and bils on the front... Though they have to come from Japan, so its a bit of a wait :o(

More on the Rancho's.......

This is going to sound terrible but here goes - I have just bought a set for the rear of the Pajero..... For $60 pair.

So I will tell you what they are like on a Pajero, all th other failures were on a 1997 Defender 90 which typically have a very supply ride and show up shock imperfections.

I'll keep you guys informed.

That says it all  Even original parts suck

I find mine, with the in-cab pretty good. Soft is soft and hard is bouncy. It was a huge improvement over factory. If I was going to tow/carry heavy loads, I would definatly go for the "air bags" that go inside the springs, my father uses them for his boat and they make an impressive difference in stabilty and vehicle levels.
