Rancho In Cab Remote - who's using?
Just wondering how good they are and for long term reliability.
Any problems with the lines getting caught up off road, compressor reliability etc?
Thinking of getting the kit for my GQ to go with my R9000 adjustables.
Not interested in brand name debates, just unbiased info from users.
cheers, sudso

I had the rancho one, awesome while it worked, then it just fell apart like a cheap chinese watch...
cant comment on the tuffhound.

Road Ranger
adjustable shocks are made so you can manafacture one shocks to suit a whole variation in spring rates, ie cheaper to make and manafacture, the shock should be adjusted to suit the spring rate of yoru vahicle, and changing it to what YOU think is more comortable for the road or whatever is wrong and will ofter try and over control the spring and lead to overheating and blown seals or not control the spring properly and result in poor ride etc.
the shock should be adjusted to suit your spring rate and left, the incabs allow for you to adjust when they shouldnt be, and adds to the chnce of sopmething failing like an airline going and ending up having your shock set to 1 and not controlling the spring
my advice would be to leave it, but no dount a thousand "experts" will come on and tell you differently, but that advie is from a suspension engineer I worked with who has done this for a living for over 30 years

If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
I think things have changed quite a bit now though as most 4x4 shocks seem to the either be self adjusting ones or manual adjusting like the ranchos.Tiny wrote:adjustable shocks are made so you can manafacture one shocks to suit a whole variation in spring rates, ie cheaper to make and manafacture, the shock should be adjusted to suit the spring rate of yoru vahicle, and changing it to what YOU think is more comortable for the road or whatever is wrong and will ofter try and over control the spring and lead to overheating and blown seals or not control the spring properly and result in poor ride etc.
These days.
Even those $70 shocks I was writing about in another thread were self adjusting.
Re: in cab
Opposite Lock sell them and I guess anyone else who sells Tough dog products.vanbox wrote:who to contact about the tough dog one?

Cheers Mick.
well i've heard a ford, holden and toyota suspension engineer say exactly the opposite to Tiny, (sorry mate) any my old uni lecturer as well says opposite to him,
but back to the point, I've had my rancho in cab controller for 2 years an no problems yet. Makes great for when loads change in the car, ie towing, or camping gear.
get it and you'll love it.

Sorry Tiny but that is bs
That's the whole point of the R9000's and Tuff Dogs. By adjusting them either by hand or with the remote means rebound and compression valving are changed etc to whatever you select. If you set a set of shocks statically for a comfortable ride then they would probably have way too much rebound at speed over boonies etc and you are likely to suffer bump steer.
The R9000's allow you to alter this as required and the ability to alter compression and rebound while on the move to suit the road conditions or your driving style
far outweighs any minor issues.
Sudso
You won't be disappointed as it will make the benefit of having R9000's more evident as you will then be able to adjust the shocks on the fly etc.
I had the first setup, which set front and rears at the same rate whereas the new model does allow for separate settings on the front and rear. If you want different settings, I believe you pump both up to the highest setting you require on the one set and then release air to gain the second set setting.
However, I went further and have two separate systems in a roof console, ie two pumps and controls so I can adjust either front or rear at the push of a button. The pumps are over 10 years old and are still perfect and although cheapies, they really don't do much work unlike a tyre pump.
The two switches are for electric swaybar releases and the VDO speed alert is wired up so if I forget to re engage the bars it warns me at a set speed etc.
Never had any issues with snagging the airlines as mine are routed out of harms way and tied to the brake lines.
Go for it

ranchos on a GQ is the main error of your ways.sudso wrote:Thinking of getting the kit for my GQ to go with my R9000 adjustables.
Had the digi TD one for couple of years now - only way really use the adjustable shock properly. Melted one air line too close to exhaust (fitting prob
) - got a joiner easily from local ag supplier. some initiall air leak issues where the fitting goes onto shock - got better o rings. I have clipped the airlines along side the brake lines across the diff housing and have never torn a line out

Thanks fella's.
I've decided to get the kit, has more positives for having one I think.
bogged: Rancho shocks are fine on the GQ, if I was fully loading up for a long trip in the outback etc. I would get bigger bore shocks for that and for the $$ Rancho's are one of the few shocks that are long enough to get most out of my flex when when I need it.
Tiny: I know where you're coming from about matched shocks - springs etc. but after having adjustables I would never go back to non adjustable shocks cept maybe for standard height or small lifts. Good to have the soft settings for quick and easy artic.
cheers
