moved battery: what to do

Post by Spartacus »

i have moved the battery out of the engine bay to the back of the cab.
now i have to run the power line back to into the engine to connect it to the old +ve terminal.

how do i connect the new power cable to the old one with its attachments?

Purchase a 1 piece continuous cable from a wholesaler , as moving battery further away would require a size jump in cable , measure it correctly , then allow 6 more inchs , then while your there get them to lug the ends and double crimp them , you would be surprised how much heat is created by badly connected lugs which arn't crimped properly , if they are reasonable they don't usually charge you for a couple of crimps.

To go the other way you can buy a straight through crimp and if you already have the cable you will still need to go to the wholesaler to buy the straight through lug so the above still applies , Cheers Paul

I think he means the extra smaller terminals which terminate on the +ve battery terminal.

On one of my cars i got a jiffy box and inside the jiffy box i had a piece of copper, say 10x20x80mm. I drilled and tapped some holes and made it so i could clamp the large terminal to the copper block, and screw the other terminals onto the copper block. It wasnt particularly pretty.

Otherwise you can terminte them onto the starter motor but I know some of the connectors dont lend themselves to this (ie the square ones with fuses inside).

I think the junction box like i mentioned above is a good idea, perhaps you can buy them?
