gq auto

My 89 Ti GQ is an auto.
Only a 3 speed, does the job, but a lot thirstier than the manual from my understanding. Around town I'm doing 500Kms from about 85 litres.
Usually the Ti came in a high roof version. There's an imported version called the Safari.
Could try a website called www.patrol4x4.com/forum for further information on them.
Good luck with it.
Give me a month or two and you can possibly have mine as I upgrade it to something that doesn't overheat constantly (so do I win any awards for salemanship with that last comment?)

It is a feasible scenario to purchase a petrol auto and bang a TD42 in it or buy a diesel manual and bung an auto in it. Both Engines have the same bell housing pattern etc. It's not that big of a deal to do the swap if you're handy or know someone handy.
Cheers Dan

this is in refernce to the starter moter position however an auto bell housing could be modified to adapt the diesel unit.
Best bet would be speak to some import wreckers or alternatively source one from japan or nz.

I've never had an issue climbing hills in mine, well till it started boiling doing it, but maintaining speed was never an issue.Dak wrote:Not that bad, I have a GQ auto, It'll maintain 100kmh up most hills running 33's and 4.11 gears.known 2 wrote:god i can't imagine how slow a n/a deisel auto would be
Cheers, Jeff.
It also does surprisingly well downhill outbush as well. Yeah you need the brakes perhaps a bit more than other manual GQ's I've followed downhill, but it's way better than I expected.

When I wasn't afraid of boiling it, I used to be able to take off very quickly. A work colleague drives a worked commode-door with 540hp at rear wheels, and even he commented on how the thing could take off.
Alas, you sure paid for the priviledge at the bowser.
Mine does have a turbo though, and I think you're talking about an N/A version.
