GQ second and third batt under bonnet?

Post by gut42 »

hi guys, Ive heard that you can buy a battery tray for a GQ that holds 2 batteries down the passanger side of the engine bay has anyone seen, heard or made one like this. Already have deep cycle batt in the rear of the car and want 2 batteries up front for my new winch.

in the old mans GQ, he had had an 8inch battery in the back right hand corner that could fit an optima, they are used in fuel inject petrols im pretty sure. Then you could run another 12inch where the radiator overflow bottle is, which is were they normally put them.

i think the battery tray where the overflow is located is the diesel tray, and the one in the corner behind it is the petrol battery tray.

there is room to run both if you wanted, might just need to relocate a few things. although its a fair amount of weight in that section.

would like to get 2 12inch batteries in there if i can, it seems as though there is enough room to do so as i have fitted a smaller overflow bottle behind the head light in front of the air intake from the snorkle. So would just need to relocate the coil to suit I thought it could go where the overflow bottle was with a longer lead to the dizzy.

As hottie said, i would be careful about the amount of weight, i've seen inner guards crack with just a single battery, let alone having two of them.

How would you go about bracing it? i was thinkin of bracing it from the radiator support panel through to the fire wall x 2, have 3 supports back to the top of the guard and 2 props under it to the inner guard.

If you can take a look at the GU behind the plastic inner gaurd, they have a diagonal brace not on the GQ. I'm currently building a new car and put some 30mm box across the top of the inner gaurd(fits nicely under the outer gaurd) and a diagonal brace back to the "A" pillar, every GQ I've looked at is cracked around the inner gaurd above the steering box and where the inner gaurds attach to th "A" pillars.

Does on both sides but drivers is usually worst due to existing battery
