more toyota parts for rocky
Hi all, building up a hj45 now and have found out that a diesel H motor has the same fan as a rocky ( fan pitch is a bit different ).
And a alt from a 2H will bolt onto a rocky belt drive motor ( not sure on the oil line fittings )

Yep that's the one The way i found this out was when i started looking for a new block for my rocky, a mate had a belt drive one so i pulled it apart to change the blocks over ( and found that they are not swapable )
It also had a alt with it and i now have a hj45 in the shed with a 2h in it ( the one that i use to own about 8 or so years ago ) small world.
And looking at the alts they looked the same and checked with the tape and they will bolt on ( even the older sprocket drive might fit if the shaft size on the alt's are the same).
just not sure if the oil lines are the same but will find out today as i will swap them over ( as mine look abit crap) will see how i go.

For the oil line's on the alt the small one bolt's straight on but you will need to get the large oil line with the 2h alt ( rocky one is to short).
The banjo bolts are all the same thread ( the 2h one's have a larger hole in both bolts)
That was for the belt drive rocky's not sure on the turbo, but if someone want's to drop a turbo motor off i will see if it's the same .
The sprocket drive rocky you will need both oil lines from the 2h as the rocky ones are shorter. ( both vac lines swap over on if you need the one for the push button 4x4)
Another alt that i have just looked at is the one from the H motor, but this one is alot longer and you will need to get the banjo bolt with the h alt as the thread is different, the large on is a bolt on. ( but the vac line on this one will need to be filed out just a bit to fit).
all of the reg plugs are the same ( not sure if they are wired the same.

Belt drive you mean timing belt, not gear driven?
If so, my turbo motor is timing belt
If you were closer I'd drop mine off no dramas
I'm going to the auto elec and sussing it out more, thanks mate
Does the large oil line bolt straight on? Does it go to the same place on the motor, or does it need modding?

Yep i mean timing belt type, the large oil line will bolt straight onto the motor ( this is the line from the 2h motor ) but might be a bit short so you might have to use a right angle fitting on the back of the alt ( the one on the alt just comes out straight )
I don't have a alt bracket on the rocky motor ( it is just hanging from rope) so can't make sure if it will be long enough. but with the 90 elbo it will fit for sure.

The wiring might not be the same.
The rocky uses an external regulator whereas the picture you posted HotFourOk is internally regulated. Not sure on the factory orig. 2H alternator but you will want to check this before pluging and playing willy nilly.
It is possible to do the swap even if this is the case, you will just need to do a bit of extra wiring, particullarly if you expect to get more amps out of the whole show.
If various wiring isn't upgraded to suit the new alt, the extra volt drop in the factory wiring might negate the whole purpose of the upgrade.
Just something to keep in mind.
Cheers

If it doesn't have two sticks, I don't wana know about it!
I just spoke to OEX and got this:
Looks like we have a winner.. .. Now just to find an aftermarket 2H alternator with high output... Will be lots easier than getting a 'Rocky' one.Our part number for that unit is HXA027. This unit comes with a vac pump and plug adapter if needed. It's mainly to suit Toyota Landcruiser's with 2H engine.
12V 60AMP

Check that its an externally regulated, not internally regulated one otherwise it won't just plug in. I put a HXA001 on mine I think from memory. Oil pipes were a PITA to sort out. Had to make a custom fitting for the return hose.HotFourOk wrote:I just spoke to OEX and got this:

Also had issues with engine oil pressure dropping cos the oil inlet orifice on the back plate of the new vac pumps are to large which cause the pump to flood with oil. Had to make up a small washer with a 0.8mm hole in it to reduce the flow. Its held in behind the bajo oil inlet using a small spring.
It probably wont be as easy as it might first seem.
Good luck.

Okay here goes, I have just ordered the 80A alternator to suit a cruiser 2H motor. It's also internally regulated, but shouldn't be a problem to sort out.
I will get it later in the week and will keep you guys posted as to my progress Hope it all goes ok!!
