CV's ,diffs , free wheel hubs and brakes
CV's ,diffs , free wheel hubs and brakes
befor any one says it. i have tried search but i keeps comming up with (page cant be displayed) on both mine and the handbrakes computers.
anyways.
looking at a ratio change and diff lock etc. as i am building this up for a comp rig i was wondering whether to go gu front diff or stay with gq, i heard the gu's cv's are stronger, but due to the tons of gq's out there, has anyone had succes with making the gq's cv stronger???
now the questions
*now as far as i understand the gu's diff is wider than gq's correct? by how much?
*is there much machining work to get to the same track width? would you worry about it?
*steering arms would also be different correct? as the steering dampner on the gq goes from chassis to steering arm and gu from panhard to steering arm!
*is the gu's diff a straight bolt on job??
*would i be better offering some moneys for my mates rolled gu's diffs and slapping them both under for a winder track and more stability?
also do gu's run bigger brakes than gq's? can they be bolted up to a gq.
are there any brake upgrades for gq's
i know running 36" tyres will play havoc with cv's reguardless of gq or gu diffs but i need something a litttle stronger than the ones i get, also does any one have a problem smashing fwh, i used 2 avm's on the left side and smahed the guts out of both of them running another brand and is all good, what fwh do yous recomend
thanks for any advice or info in advance. Duane

gu n gq are the same centres, gu cv will not fit a gq housing, gq rear housing has 20mm per side narrower axle flanges.
GU front is 60mm wider then gq, gu rear is 40mm wider then gq rear
Just change the whole front to gu n leave the rear gq, also get a koyo 104 gu steer box they are the strongest, the koyo 082 steer box is a series 2 gq the are good but gu are better
good luck

*now as far as i understand the gu's diff is wider than gq's correct? by how much? ~50mm per side I think
*is there much machining work to get to the same track width? would you worry about it? No
*steering arms would also be different correct? as the steering dampner on the gq goes from chassis to steering arm and gu from panhard to steering arm! Later GQ's also run dampler from panhard. you woul prob upgarde to heavier arms and use custom brackets[color]
*is the gu's diff a straight bolt on job Yep
*would i be better offering some moneys for my mates rolled gu's diffs and slapping them both under for a winder track and more stability? Yep (front at least)also do gu's run bigger brakes than gq's? can they be bolted up to a gq.
are there any brake upgrades for gq's [GU brakes are bigger, dont think they can be bolted to GQ. GQ you can upgrade to Ti brakes bigger rotor and twin piston callipers bolt straight in

Hubs stick with the genuine article can be bought from wreckers
thanks for any advice or info in advance. Duane
See if you can understand that mess I made up there
