g'day all,
Just got my 1988 4dr Rangie registered last week and was towing a car trailer with my series II on the back, the car trailer tows really well behind many other different rigs, but not so well with the Rangie.
It was flopping side to side from about 80kph on. I've put this down to the rear suspension setup in the rangie. It currently has 1" lifted springs with 1.5" spacer under the spring perch (running 2" ome spring in the front). the rear must be too soft, anyone know a good 2" lifted spring that will handle the towing without been a harsh ride?? this rig is used as weekend fun (not hardcore) and tow rig for the series II. I'm pretty sure the rear shocks are abit soft too (bilsteins) but I have another set I'll try. I will also take out the self leveller unit.
Also does anyone know where I can get a towbar tounge for an ARB rear bar/step (other than ARB)???

I am running Dobinson C51-054 in the rear of my rangie. they give a 3" lift over standard with Bilstein dampers and polyairs. I have towed a heavy boat aroundr around and with the poly's at 25 psi, it is very stable.
as for a tongue for the arb rear bar...might have to try wreckers.
try Andrew at LRA in Melbourne or British Off Road outside of Brisbane. Courier fees shouldn't be too much. They are getting hard to get. The only other alternative is head to an engineering shop to get one made. Just take a standard straight tongue and get them to cut and weld it at the correct angle.
Cheers

it was a combination of weight of trailer lifting front of rangie, and the trailer starting to wobble due to soft dampering in the rear.
Thats why I need to know a good strong spring in the rear and I'll fit new shocks in the rear.
I know the trailer tows well as I've towed it behind many other cars/4wds with no problem at all.
even my old rangie with patrol diffs wasn't a problem.
would like to not run poyair's if possibe.
