i've looked at extending the wheel base on my vit, but due to the fuel tank, the short SHORT rear lower arms, and the short crapper upper link, you can prolly go about another inch longer using 32"-33" tyres.
the arc the rear diff travels doesn't allow much option.
when the wheel drops, it wants to walk under, but when it stuffs, it stuffs backwards. my 33"s touched the back of the rear guard when stuffed into the well sitting on the bump stop.
you can move the the IFS front forwards only one inch. this allows room to run 33"s with not much scrubbing as it moves the rear of the front tyre away from the rear of the front well. this method may also increase the front track width by a couple of inches.
i've been thinking about chopping the back off my SWB soft top vit, and extending the wheel base about 10". this will leave the rear of a 33" tyre very close to the rear most section of the chassis. the fuel tank will need to be relocated above the chassis rails at the rear.
i haven't done this yet, as i haven't been able to decide how to lift the front to match the rear. i thought if i extended the wheelbase, i would need additional lift to have the same ramp over as i do without the wheel base extension.

Depends what you are trying to achieve. Here are a couple of options that I know of that have been done. To push it back 2" you can make new 2" longer lower arms, a spacer for the link to the top of the diff that sets it back 2"(also can space it up to go with the lift to keep the balljoint happy) and and a driveshaft spacer. Alternatively you could rotate the rear axle and add a spacer at the balljoint link to the top of the diff for moving it back about an extra 1". Maybe even a combo of these two options could be used together but you are limited to what will fit by the tyre size you want to run, the rear bumper or bar you are running and what you are willing to cut.

Okay what I am thinking.
I like the look of the Vit was going to start with a softop shorty would like to stretch it to 100 inches. Would like to retain the side profile of the complete body as much as possible.
Obviously suspension issues aren't really an issue as i will be remaking it all anyway to fit cruiser diffs in it. Will be running 37 bfg crawlers.
Am just thinking at the moment and waying up ideas the build won't start for a while will be used for winch events and hopefully OBC.
Thanks for the replies

I'd put money on efi 6 port rotaries from series 4 Rx7's running AW4 auto's... So maybe a cool way of doing it would be 13BT+AW4+80series case - this way you still get the constant case for front digs and no rover partsTEAM KNECK wrote:Will be something different another turboed Rotary. And before you all get on and bag me and say it won't work I don't Care it is original and I am sure I can make it work to what I need.
It will be backed by a C4 and rover transfer.

I love the idea of a turbo rotary vit - nice work... says the guy who swears by 660 sierras
