gear box changes

Post by rusty_042 »

hey guys i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a gear box change i currently have a 5ltr blu motor in my 2 door i was looking at putting a commodore 5 speed or a celica box in then modify a transfer case to fit im thinking of doing this as i still have the 4 speed an the transfer case is stuffed an the clutch is gone so i either repait that or put somethin new in

what do u guys think

also it will be running 35s on 80 series diffs if that helps

any idea would be greeatfull as i dont know what to do atm

Put another 4 speed in, or repair that one, best option would be holden to GQ 5 speed, then GQ to LT 230 rover transfer case, but it will cost a bomb, but there is adaptors to suit

GQ 5 speed ill have a look an see what i can get one for as i would perfer a 5speed over the 4 speed but i guess it does come to a cost factor in the end,

what are the 4 speeds like box wise do they break easy? cos this one did but that is most likly my fault as eager new cars allways get floged

Put a taper roller conversion in the trans case and it'll be fine, otherwise as matt said go the GQ

NP 435, cheap to buy, strong as superman, granny low, easy to rebuild, fits a 5L with a toploader bellhousing, short, ..........

essentially only a three speed box though and about 1k of custom work to adapt it to a case.

Nah, cause you'll end up with shit low range, rover is heaps better...and constant 4wd

gearing will be spot on with 4.11's and 35's-36's
