Wonder what they'd call the Sierra/Santana/Samurai if Suzuki was french... hmmm they'd probably stuck to using one name only no? Probably a number at that... for translation purposes... now where did I put that link to babelfish.altavista.com (the French I can deal with, but the German, forget it!)... ah... right there it is...

And if the GV was Le Grand Vitesse, that would make the Sierra the "Petite Vitesse" (petite avec un "e" parce que la mot "automobile" est féminine, n'est pas?) ... man, I'm not a great fan of the French language... why do I even try?
Just for curiosity, guess what I got as a translation from the English "Recreational Vehicle" to French on babelfish? En Fraçais, c'est le "Camping-car"... doesn't sound very Frrrrench to me!

Nah, who am I to critique a language that I was only ever a mediocre student of?
But following your line of thought, perhaps the French could call their version of a suzuki a P.V.T.T.
As in "Petite Vehicule Toute Terrain." Or P.V.T.T.S.V. ( sans vittesse.)
As a people they are very keen to keep their language, and I commend them for it as it is a beautiful language. Specially when spoken by a scantily clothed blonde of 10+ on the beauty scale.
But having said that they do use a lot of english in the day to day language. (as we use quite a bit of French I suppose) such as Jean bleu, weekend, parking, CDs, and quite a few others too. Whereas in Quebec they are more pure in their French. e.g. Stationmente for parking. etc.
But nevertheless, I would dearly like to live there for a few years.
Oh and one more thing, of course the Voiture is feminine, why else do men all over the world spend all their time and money on them, lie under them for hours on end, keep trying to make them look beautiful, and add accessories and dress them up constantly, and ride them as hard as they can? (with or without the lights on)

I love hijacking threads. Who cares about greg's zuk we are now talking the french language, awesome. Yeah in Quebec it is all a bit strange. They basically speak a true french, one from the 18th century that hasn't been as influenced by the duration of years or bastardising by immigrants etc that French in france has.
Had a hell of a time trying to make my way around Quebec as my school French is dodgy at the best of times and when you are trying to communicate with someone who only speaks old french it is even harder. Also the french speaking Qubecois in the most don't speak English whereas the English speaking ones have to speak french to get by . As i said, weird place but really nice too.
