turbo 700
Get RVO in Victoria to build up a turbo 700 for you it will be bullet proof. They built the one behind my LS1 commodore, i only had the the one drama with 3rd gear and they fixed it straight away and slapped on the warrenty again. Not forgetting im pumping about 700hp through it. I think for what you will be needing a turbo 700 built by these blokes will be plenty. Top service.
If ya happy with only having a 3sp then stick with the 400. You should be able to get a bullet proof 400 built for a lot cheaper than a 700.
As mentioned above the 400 is the strongest of the lot, but really if built right you shouldnt have any probs with any.

Im here for the sausage!
i'd go with a t350 there a fair bit lighter and pretty strong, well enough for a lightweight buggy anyway only thing is dont bother with any of them unless your running a cooler with a thermo pushin air through it they are getting harder to find but i still only paid about 1500 for a fully recoed one which included purchase price
84lux-project. A-frame, 350 chev, turbo 350 auto, duals, rears up front, crossover, twin locked and a 118" wheelbase
I don't know allot about autos, however I'm pretty sure that with the Turbohydramatic series that the number roughly translates to the amount of torque the box is rated to take. Do note however that the torque convertor has an effect on this output from the engine.
Hot rodders like the turbo350 because it takes less power from the engine than other turbo boxes, and because it is more compact. Honestly, what are you going to do with a 308 to make any of these boxes too weak?
Depending on the bolt pattern on your engine, have you considered the Tri-matic, not quite as low in 1st I believe (2.31, instead of 2.42 or something); but might be another option. If the thing is a comp-rig, i.e. never going on road I would definiantly re-consider a well built powerglide, and of course lower the transfer or diffs to suit the 1.76/1.86 in 1st gear; but if you have a strict budjet I get your philosophy.

Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

how strong is the trimatic 3spd? as i'm thinking of replacing the h55 in my 75's for a auto, problem is my motor is a trimatic 308, does anyone make an adapter for trimatic to turbo box? as i'd like a 4spd. it has to be tough as my 308 has about 300hp
or landcruiser transder case to tri auto?
