32s wont fit on a hilux???

Post by RAY185 »

ok, got a fella who wants to buy my BFG A/T 32/11.5R15 tyres. Wants to fit them on his RZN169 2000 model Hilux dual cab. Stock as a rock except for the aftermarket flares. They fit at the rear no probs but rub fairly severely on the inner guard and mudflaps behind the front wheels on anything more than half lock in either direction. I would have thought they would fit no probs. I cant see anything other than a body lift solving the problem but he and I agree that its a little too much trouble to go to. Has anyone fitted 32s to a standard height hilux of this vintage? Any probs fitting 31s?

Cheers for the info.

31's shouldnt be a problem... a small lift will fit 32's. I guess offset of rims could be an issue too?

true, should have mentioned they are on cruiser offset sunnies, u think hilux offset will make the difference needed? I'm thinking it will possibly just clear the inner guards with the hilux offset but worry if it will be enough when the suspension is compressed?

tried that, raised 30mm and the right TB adjuster locked up, could have removed them and turned them for more adjustment but would still mean he'd have to fit raised springs in the back to keep it level which means more $$$ he doesnt want to spend. I'm not worried about not being able to sell him the tyres, just surprised they dont fit, thought they had more clearance than that.

32 & 31 s on hilux

Post by CHILLI 2 »

you will find that 32's and 31's will usually rub on this model hilux some worse than others, offset makes a difference. If there rubbing on the plastic at the back of the gaurd you can sometimes get away with moving the wheel forward by getting your local tyre shop to adjust the caster and reset your wheel alignment also you can heat the plastic with a heat gun and reshape it a little to give about 1/2 to 1 inch extra clearance!

Is this lux IFS....Cruiser rims normally 8" wide, an IFS lux will rub with anything over 7" wide in my experience.

yeah, its IFS front. oh well, looks like he's restriced to 30/9.5R15 unless he wants to fork out some dollars for some lift. Thanks for the replies.

I kinda thought you could fit 33's on this model lux just by hammering the shit out of the rear part of the inner guards.

Dude I think you missed the point, Drop the rims to 7" wide using lux offset instes of cruiser offset on 8" rims. 32" tyres should fit .... just maybe verry slight rubbage on full lock and full stuff

my bad 32x11.5 will require a 8" rim. if he can get 32x10.5 then it will go on a 7" rim and have very little rubbage.

Pretty sure 10.5 will be MAX width cause any thing wider will require a 8" rim.

I had 32s on 8 inch cruiser sunrasiers on my IFS Lux and they did rub pretty bad with no lift.
You can toss that plastic bit from inside the guard and hammer the hell out of the seams in the back of the guard and they will probably clear or you can chuck in a 1 - 2 inch body lift.
Im running 33s with a 1.5" bodylift and a slight torsionbar crank (1 inch max).
After a good pounding with a BFH it barely rubs at all.
Paul.

I've got 33x12.5x15's on my 2000 dual cab with no cutting no rubbing. I'm using IFS lux offset rims 15x8, with 2'' body and suspension.

32"'s won't fit. You either have to lift body or suspension.

I have a 98 isf dual cab currently running 32s. The 31s will rub on lock on a standard bus. To get the 32s to fit I replaced the torsion bars with ARB ones & wound them up 30-40mm. Got the rear spring reset the same. And fitted a 2" body lift. Also fitted Landcruser 6.25 offset rims. 15x8s. They still rub on lock but they are great in the bush.

 he doesnt want to do a body lift or suspension lift. I'm thinking a solid axle swap may be out of the question. Oh well, what have I got to lose................"Hey cobba, got an idea on how to make them tyres fit...........(Extra Heavy Duty Flame Suit ON!!)

Wow this is a bit of a grave dig. Just as an update Im now running 35s with no suspension lift and 40mm bodylift. I have cut and shut the firewall a little and trimmed the guards. No rubbing at all.
I have some 36" TSL that Im am going to see if I can squeeze in for a mud comp coming up  .

G'day,

I have a 2003 hilux that has a 2" rear and 40mm front lift and have done some guard trimming and fit 265/75x16 (31.6x10.5x16) BFG AT's and no problem. Have a set of new Wrangler MTR's that are gonna go on soon and might need to do a little more "panel beating" on the inner guard as they are slightly bigger 265 than the BFG

on 16x7 IFS offset sunnies. you "might" get 32/11.5x15 with a lift and guard trimming but it would be close. might even get a 33/10.5x15 with a 2" lift and guard trimming.
