inline fuse? i cut my cig light wiring ont he weekend and it cut out my stereo.. was a fuse.. check fuses first i would say. one in back of unit as well.

oh and when installing a head unit in my missus vitara i used the existing wire.. turned it up and the same thing you said happened.. turned out there was a 5A fuse hidden in the dash wiring so replaced it with a 10 or 15..c ant remember.

yeh puttin it in a vl commedore, there is no fuse on back of the unit and the one inline is still ok and at the fusebox is still good , should i use a testlight on the power wire or just trace the wire through and see what i find???

Test it for sure using test light or multimeter. Then you can rule out fuses wires etc. Check earth maybe. Pull the unit out and wire the earth and power directly to the battery. If it doesn't come on it has a problem. If it is new return it.

sounds like a short and its overloading itself . there should be a small hole in the deck that a ball point pen will fit to reset it all , then if it does it again check the earth , wiring and speaker wires arn't shorting any where , the earth and speaker wires would be my first choice . Maybe a screw of the trim along the kick panels has gone thru the wire ??
just a little left of insanity :)
