Oil Drain on your Turbo GQ
Oil Drain on your Turbo GQ
HI,
Just need some help from you if possible, I'm fitting up a turbo kit on my TD42 GQ. No intructions because its 2nd hand so I am after some info on where your oil drain goes from the bottom of your turbo back into the block. I've read on a lot of the kits they use a pre-existing drain back into the block so I wouldn't have to drill and tap the sump. Can anyone tell me where this existing drain is so I can use it?
Thanks for the help!
Cheers, Paul

The block has a casting that is machined, drilled and tapped at the factory when made, you'll have to make a return, some people drill and tap, some spike and tap some remove the sump and weld.

The vacuum pump is supplied with engine oil and has a drain. Provided that the turbo drain can drop into this it would be fine, the turbo drain must be within 7 degrees of straight down or the incresed pressure on the oil return will cause the rear seal to fail.

+ 11 for what the bloke above me has said.
Even then I have a highmount turbo and use the existing drain in the side of the engine - with the alternator draining into it as well - I find oil will bank up a little still.
