gme aerial to uniden uhf???
Hey all.
I might be missing something but I cannot seem to figure out how to connect my new gme aerial into the back of the uniden uhf?
If it is important I will get model numbers but I can't remember them at the moment. It is a remote head uniden radio.
I cant seem to get the connection to hold on to the coax cable and I am wondering if I need a different fitting or something.
Anyone got pics of how the gme aeriels terminate at the radio end . I am aware there is a bit of a trick to the trimming etc but fucked if I can see how it works at the moment.
Hope some help can be had as I want to see if me new radio works!!! ha ha
Cheers
Brian

TERMINATING PL259 (Standard Connector)
1. Strip of approximately 40mm of the outside black sheath
2. Cut off inside braid leave 6-7mm of braid hanging out of black sheathing
3. Fold braid back over black sheath (so braid is pointing backward like in picture below)
4. Strip 25-28mm off inner sheath (white)
5. Insert striped center wires through middle of PL259 connection
6. Screw coax cable up into connection using the inside thread on PL259 connector.
7. Carefully solder center wire to top pin of the connector don’t let solder drip down through the middle of pin too far.
8. Cut off excess wires coming out of the top of the pin. Test plug with a multimeter, check that there IS NOT continuity (a “shortâ€

Thanks heaps for the replies guys.
I pretty well ended up doing roughly what jaffa said to do after looking at it for a while and gaining some brain matter back.
BUT i did not solder anything!!!
The part where it says "Carefully solder center wire to top pin of the connector don’t let solder drip down through the middle of pin too far.

If you use the dimension in the instructions I put up , the centre wire will be hanging out of the centre pin, yes you do have to solder it, if there is excess wire trim it off.
DO NOT transmit on the radio untill you have soldered the connector. It can/will do damage to the radio, if your not sure take it to an expert and get them to do it.

should be just a standard pl259 conector and a so239 on the back of the radio doesnt matter what brand it is

Ok not sure if this pic is real good but you might get the idea
You can see the bronze coloured bit that goes into the unit plus the white inner of the coax cable plus the inner wire.
Should that white insulation be cut back further and the inner wire be soldered to the bronze bit???
Thanks heaps for your replies and help guys.
BTW the radio is picking up signal as it is but I am not going to use it again until I get this sorted.

Alright, I assume you've soldered or otherwise connected the plug onto the coax cable. There should be another part that go over it to screw it to the chassis mounted female plug on the radio.

If you haven't got that piece, then you'll need to get it. Talk to the supplier of the radio if it wasn't supplied.
Once you've got it, it goes onto the cable before you solder the other piece on.

shouldnt be to much of a challenge, id never put in a UHF b4 untill a few weeks ago, and the only challenge i had was that i was so keen to do it i was out on the street at 9 at night trying to do it in the dimming light ov my headlamp, apart fromt that it works perfectly (cept when its at the other end of the state from me, like it is now... )punk_180 wrote: I now have a challenge for tonight. haha

Yep it is all very easy once ya know the little tricks like mentioned above.
Mine seems to be working well but ya never know how close any random is when they are coming thru on the uhf so can't really guage how good reception is atm.
What about coppa channels and stuff are these ever any use to anyone???
