MQ Newb - Spares Online?

Post by prossett »

Just found a beauty of a 1982 Patrol K160-638319 with 4.0lt engine, 4 gears, in very good shape... my worry is spares.

I work in the interior of the United Arab Emirates, just on the edge of the Rub al Khali desert, and the local Nissan guys on the phone say absolutely no chance of parts.

I want this truck!

Where online can I find common spares, like consumables: oil seals, bushings, gaskets, bearings, etc?

For example the steering knuckle seals on both sides are leaking, part no. 40589-c6000?

Got a lot to learn! Just reading the MQ bible, and it's excellent info.

Yeah, it's a tough place for old cars, as people just keep buying new ones the moment the old one gets old. I'm also quite far from Dubai and so need to be self-reliant.

So far, I've rebuilt and modified a 93 Wrangler and a 83 GMC 1/2 tonne.

For the MQ, it's consumables I'm worried about - if a differential or gearbox goes, it'll be scrap, but it seems like a solid little bugger of a truck, and so I'm ready to take my chances. Welding stuff back together, roughly fabricating parts, and that kind of repair will not be a problem.

So, lightweight spares like oil seals, bearings, gaskets, etc., can prolly be mailed to me quite easily if I can find a good couple of sources.

Your local Nissan guys just can't be bothered. I have had no trouble getting spares for my 1982 LHD P40 engined K160 from my local Nissan dealer. If Nissan don't have it in NZ they get it ex Japan in 8-10 days. I once got a LHD throttle cable ex Japan which although longer than the RHD one was actually cheaper than the locally available RHD one.

Most of the bearings, taper bearings etc are standard sizes. Also oil seals, brake pads etc. I have found it generally pays to use Nissan seals if you can. I have had problems with after-market ones.

Don't know about internet based parts though.

David

PS Just checked my VIN - K160 637546 only 773 before yours! According to my parts book yours was a 1982 model as mine and built Sept/Oct 1981
