A cheaper option for the pedes is to go with the motorway mongrel, they are a remold, and I've not heard of any major dramas.
Are they really that much cheaper now?heathhoppy wrote:hi mate i think price will play alot with it as well simex are about $370 a tyre and silverstone are about $280 so i am think about silver stone thanks heaps mate
When i got my pedes it was a toss up b/w s/stones or pedes. S/stones were a little cheaper, supposedly stronger sidewalls, but narrower (10.5" was widest 35")
I have been extremely happy with my pedes and i reckon i will stick with Simex in future.

You're joking, what a rippoff! Mongrels used to be around $200ea. Maybe someone should remind them that they're remoulds not new tyres.adam penfold wrote:yer at $350 a tyer for mongrels.thats wat i got qouted in vic.u can pic the silver stones up for about 320

Well that throws the "the mongrels are the cheaper option" out the friggen window, I'd go with the M-117s after checking the picks on their sites the M-117s look a little more open and have better bead protection. Supose the only way to really know is put them side by side on the same truck and mud drag
Maybe we could TopGear to do a segment on that.

I've used both on my truck for general 4x4 and for comps. 35x10.5/16 Silverstones ad 35x11.5/15 Simex.
The Silverstone is a far far more aggressive tyre. In hard slippery clay they are near unbeatable, BUT if it is soft, they dig like nothing you've seen.
The Simex has far better raod manners. It doesn't dig as big holes but is still really good in the mud. Fo general conditions the Simex is better but it is more of a comprimise. In the right conditions the Silverstone is tops, by quite way, but be aware the Silverstone is a small 35. Both have advantages but I'd go for the Simex if you are only going to have one set of off-road tyres.

I had heard this as well.nzdarin wrote: but be aware the Silverstone is a small 35.
According to the simex tyre size info the 10.5 simex is quite a bit smaller than the 11.5 simex also.
At 4x4 shop the other day they had a silverstone 35/10.5 and simex 35/11.5
so I put them next to each other(not on rims)they were same height, dont think being on rims would make much difference.that would make the 10.5 simex even smaller if tyre info is correct.
At this stage we cant get the silver stones in NZ but thats going to change very soon I beleave
On rims makes a fair difference. The silverstones are smaller then the 35 x 10.5 simex.Clarkie wrote:I had heard this as well.nzdarin wrote: but be aware the Silverstone is a small 35.

The silverstones I have found are much more suited to smaller cars. Hilux etc
hi mate how do you think they would go on a gq shorty with 3 inch lift with no body thanks heapsRhysta wrote:On rims makes a fair difference. The silverstones are smaller then the 35 x 10.5 simex.Clarkie wrote:I had heard this as well.nzdarin wrote: but be aware the Silverstone is a small 35.

They would go fine. Might scrub a tiny bit. nothing a body lift can fix but.heathhoppy wrote:hi mate how do you think they would go on a gq shorty with 3 inch lift with no body thanks heapsRhysta wrote:On rims makes a fair difference. Perosnally I think the added width that simex provide mavers for a much better tyre, but this all depends on what conditions your driving.
Im running 10.5's atm and will be looking into 12.5's next time.
I've had 35x105 Silverstones and compared them to 35x10.5 Simex both on 8" wheels and they are very close to the same size but the Simex is slightly bigger. The 11.5 is alot bigger, in fact it is closer to the 36x12.5 than the 35x10.5.
I've heard plenty about the 12.5 Silverstone but so far it has been all talk. If it comes out and has the same pattern as the 10.5 thenit would be great on a Patrol. I found the 10.5 to be just a bit narrow and so sunk quite a bit. The Silversone works really well if you don't have HP due to the centre blocks being so far apart.
