Front wheel bearing maybe?

Post by GU BUG »

I've had a nasty dry bearing noise coming from the front of my GU ute & today it got worse. It's louder & can be felt through the steering wheel. It started out almost sounding like a rock was floating around where the adjustment is for the hand brake in front of the tailshaft with a ting ting now & then but now it's more of a grind & seems to be coming from the front

I pulled off the front rotor to check the wheel bearings but not much visually wrong with them.

I noticed that if I grab the wheel left & right (9 o'clock & 3 o'clock), there's play but if I grab it top & bottom (6 & 12 o'clock) there's nil play.

Any ideas on what this may be? I'm hoping just a wheel bearing or could it be something worse???

Need to get it fixed before the weekend as I start a new job Monday & need the car!!!

Cheers

Joe

My brakes got really spongy and I hope that you don't have as much getting the cone washers out as i did :D

My bearings were starting to squeal but they had no play. When I pulled them out they were all brown from overheating.

it sounds like your tie rod ends are going and the wheel bearing are on the way out. just jack the car up and spin the wheel and listen.

Yeah done that but can't really hear much. I'm thinking a broken cv could be possible as there's something floating around in the diff making a nasty sound . It's down @ the mechanics atm so hopefully it can be fixed soon.....
