what shocks to go with

Post by wrksux »

well its getting time to replace the shocks in my shorty, this is a uni budget deal whilst id love some koni's or bilstiens i dont think i can afford em.

im looking at
ride pro heard good things
procomp also heard good stuff from em
raw 4x4 - not really heard anything nor prices.
rancho - can get cheapish but heard they arent to good on GQ's

most likely at this stage looking to get a 35mm bore shock on a shorty no more lift in the forseable future she is running 2' spring and body and 33" procomp muddies , it see's some offroad stuff but mostly is my DD for uni and work. atm the rears are to short and have worn out they were EFS would consider them but have heard some dodgy stories from people.

any advice/prices would be awsome cheers
Tim

could sus out Super cheap gabreil shocks, Ultras are $80 for 2 these are 35mm bore these aren't 4x4 shocks though.

They have blue ryder ones these are 4x4 45mm bore 35mm sharft etc $199 for a set of 4 shocks as a kit for a 4wd.

No idea what 2 are on their own.

I've been looking into the Gabriel shocks, their made in the USA.

Basicly the Blue ryders are for the big 4wds patrols land crusiers etc.

They also have Gas ryder ultra's these are for the lighter 4wd and lt trucks and super shocks for cars etc.

These are $70 for 2 shocks, I'm thinking of grabbing a set of these as I need to for the front bad, then I can up the torsen bars and get the camber fixed up if needed.

The ultra's don't give you an extra 50mm height like the blue ryders but should be ok for what I'm after atm.

You have maverick they have the ultra's and standard and 50mm height blue ryders for that.

I checked that out 15mins ago lol

i think you will find they do not sell a shock long enough to use the full suspension travel of a standard gq especially with sway bars removed
tho they may sell 80 series shocks that can be used with a pin to eye adaptor on the front of a gq and are long enough for a few inches of lift atleast

I think the travel for the mav shock blue ryder is.

335mm extended.
215mm coiled up.

I was checking the lengths to see if I could fit them up to the terrano, but it's travel is 354mm to 235mm and nothing in the blue ryder could fit that, spewing a little bit but ah well.

can only use cheaper shocks in their range so I guess it's not too bad, $70 for 2 shocks get me by till I want to get something a lot better or whatever really.

my shocks are over 800 long. 760 is about the right length for 4 inch lift
so lake 4 inches off that n thats what a standard gq can use in travel

I see they have other shocks for the patrols and land crusiers as well, I think the logest was 680 that would come in around the standard shock length.

would have to go down and look at the book again, but I couldn't be stuffed.

As I said before, if your after cheapie shocks you won't get much bang for your buck really, but it might get you by till you have the cash for something more suited.
