Isuzu Diesel motor to repower 2A Landy
Hi guys does any one know witch Isuzu diesel 4 pot engine to repower my 1965 2A I want to retain the 2A box, is there an adapter kit around that I could use? has any one done this here thanks.

Cannot help with an Isuzu but I understand that a 200TDI diesel out of a early defender or disco is a good option. I think it will bolt straight up to a standard series landy box but I am not sure.
The 3.9 isuzu out of a series 3 stage 1 or a county mightv also go in.

hey i have an isuzu 3.1l turbo intercooled 4cyl diesel for sale complete with auto trans 66,000 klms its a 4jg2
The IIA box is fairly, so most isuzu diesels will rapidly destroy it - not to mention the gearing will be too low.
I know someone who fitted an ISUZU C240 (?) diesel to a series LR. They are about 2.2L I think. It was OK, but not much better than a good 2.25D.
A 4JB1T would be a good option (and much better than the 4JG2T), but you would need to change gearboxes.

Thanks but I want to keep the 2A box as I have a pto winch that runs of it and it damm great winch. I was thinking of going the transfer gear conversion with thr higher raito gear and usind a Isuzu diesel engine.

Does the PTO run off the box or the t-case?
You can keep your t-case and convert to a stronger box.
But if you want to keep your box, then I would recommend a small, smooth running diesel, and being very gentle on it.

As mentioned, the 4JB1(T) is a great motor. The lowest spec one put out about 60kw and 230nm. Power should be fine, but the 2A layshaft won't like the torque much.
You can keep your t-case and convert to a stronger box.

The PTO runs from the gear box not the transfercase I think I will have to use the smaller Isuzu motor that was listed and be easy on the g/box. Iam not going to use it in extreame offroading lol.

Assuming its currently fitted with a 2.25 Petrol.....
They are a great, indestructable off-road motor which is perfectly suited to a 2A. They will go well on the road as well with a bit of breathing improvement. Mine would easily cruise on 110 with just a set of extractors and a holden carby with adjustable main jet.
Maybe it just needs a freshen up? Yes they're more thirsty than a diesel, but the fuel savings will NEVER pay for the conversion which will cost you at least 5k just for the engine and fiddly bits.
Even a small diesel wont cope with the low gearing of a 2A and it will be an endless and expensive cycle of upgrades - gearbox, diffs/gearing brakes etc.

Not necessarily true - I converted my IIA from a 2.25P to a 2.25D. It cost me $600 for a rebuilt short motor (ex mining company warehouse stock), $200 for a buggered long motor (donor for electrical and fuel systems, etc) and about $200 for other bits. Engine uses about 9-10 l/100km as opposed to petrol which was 15-17. It performs very well (with a few tweaks), and on the last trip I beat a mate's (almost identical) IIA with a 2.25P up the cunningham's gap by miles (started about 300m behind him). And I have 33's and he has 32's!

Mark - I thought he was talking about the small ISUZU C240 I mentioned - which is practically bolt-in, and there are kits floating around for almost nothing - but performance is only on-par with a good 2.25D. KB - AFAIK the 200Tdi is practically bolt-in - apart from moving (or raising) the battery tray and doing something with 1 engine mount (?)
