Lower Balljoints

Post by springer »

Hey Guys,

2 questions.

Just replacing the lower ball joint on drivers side and the generic one I bought (roadsafe brand) about $60 doesn't have a grease nipple.

Can't add one don;t have the tools to tap thread etc. The Bursons guy assures me it will be ok, he advised most of the BJ they get these days are non serviceable etc and don't have grease nipples etc. It is greased etc ready to go however.

I would prefer one that is re-greasable. Any other brands you know of that have one?

2nd question is on the lower ball joints there is a small bolt that threads in on the front side.....appears to have no purpose whatsoever. Anyone know what the use of it is?

Cheers Leigh.

Hi!

For the first: I would take it somewhere to make the threads...they don't have any couse they would last to long (long in the view of a part seller).

second: the other threads are for the grease niple on the other side lower arm, you can use the same balljoint on both sides?

I bought a ball joint with no grease nipple in it and within 6 months it had play in it.

I have now got camelot ones which came from a mitsi dealer but heaps better price than genuine.

The bolt retains the joint in the lower arm, and, I think, is the steering stop

Ahh of course. Thanks for that.

Will be hunting around for one with grease nipples.

I buggered one while removing my front diff (amateur home mechanics... ) and had to buy one on a weekend. The only one I could get didn't have a grease nipple, and it started squealing like a banshee after about 2 years. The BJ on the other side is still fine.

I bought a replacement from Mitsubishi (cheaper brand - Three Diamonds?) and it came with a grease nipple.

Good luck,

Scott
