25 cars signed on!
Slight change of plans due to the organiser getting stuck for a few hours while finishing the track & mapping.
had to call for assistance!
So no map! Just a tag along!
Still rated HARD!
Can't wait for some feedback!

the drive was really good had a ball but why does a visitor end up with a couple thousand dollar repair bill to his winch, doing the clubs job , ill help any1 enjoy this hobbie but when clubs rate trips as hard then allow trucks with street tyrers a 4sale sign on the back then expect a visitor to recover him , then add the fact no communicatoin in the recovery the driver of the said truck havin no clue as to whats happening but if i had of left him there i would of been a low life maybe the club should place some restrictions on these events like a radio recovery equipment and some experience wouldnt go a STRAY thanks for a big repair bill brett but the track was enjoyable

Keep your shirt on mate - I didn't say it was funny. None the less, 2K for a 24V motor and solenoid[s] is very steep. I’m thinking you used some poetic licence here to highlight your aggravation, if not, you need to shop around.

I do not agree with you that it is the "clubs job" to recover all vehicles. There were many people that helped others that had problems. There was no expectation for anyone to help out if they did not wish to do so. In my books a willingness to help out is the name of the game when you have a group of likeminded people doing what they [usually] enjoy most. Sometimes there will be complications.

I appreciate that you are frustrated. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but as you were offering your gear to help out, you could have at any time taken more control of the situation and asked someone to be a dedicated recovery person to call the shots or even opted out completely and let someone else do it. There were numerous people close by that have tons of experience and very capable equipment. Many would have likely stepped up to the plate if asked.

Next time, please consider the decency to discuss any issues with the person[s] involved before having a go at them via an open forum.

Cheers

maybe logan should bring in a rule that states you must be a member of a 4wd club affiliated with 4wd qld to go on any club trips/nite runs, this way the driver would have done a 4wd course and 'should' have half an idea on how things are done on club trips. i know the trips i have been on it has stated at the start that it is a self recovering run and if you cant recover urself find someone that will help you out and follow them.

i wasn't there so cant comment on what happen, also something like this happened on the first round of tough tracks at janowen hills, someone broke something helping to recover a truck.

seems the ways things are going that soon no one will be game to help out in case they do break something. image what would happen if say the helpers car breaks something and it damages the helpee's car, who would the at fault....

this is why i'm very careful now who i help out and really have a good think before offering help. i dont like not helping but some people are better off learning the hard way....
cheers Pete.

Making threats is not going to get you anywhere

This is not the Logan Clubs web site and i doubt anyone involved with this run has read any of your replies or im sure they would have contacted you. You are going about this all the wrong way and abusing people who have had nothing to do with this run.

Your best bet would be to PM the person who started this thread(Brett Long) and await his reply.

No one here has abused you in any way yet your here abusing others with no reason.

The last time I went on a Logan Club Night Run I come home the next morning to find that someboby else's dog had shat on my front lawn whilst I was out on the Logan Club's run - had to clean it up myself with no help from any member of the Logan club - talk about furious.

Personally I don't think this is by any means the fault of the Logan 4x4 Club - no I am not a member of this club.

Seriously get over it mate. I don't care if you OWN the bloody Overlander Magazine. Logan 4X4 Club and its dedicated members put on these runs for all people NOT JUST CLUB MEMBERS so we can all enjoy our shared passion and they should be commended for it.

Guy you should have just called ity quites on the recovery if you couldn't afford any breakages.
Cheers

To clarify your false assumption, I am not a member of the Logan Club. I am someone that is trying to be a voice of reason. It looks like I am wasting my time. I apologise if my initial off hand comment about your winch upset you.

jesus christ mate...all i can say is...turn your caps lock off and stop shouting and if indeed you are a so called author (yes it is spelt with an O) then remind me never to buy a mag again as with the amount of spelling mistakes in your post surely the mag would be unreadable....

can you also cast your mind back to the start of the run where you would have been told (although you prob didnt listen) that you are on the night run of your own accord..the Logan Club is not responsible for any damage to your car etc etc.......

were you forced to use the winch...did the organiser of the run go up to you and threaten you that if you didnt winch the guy out then he would torch your car..i doubt it...

seems lots of people need to take responsibility for their own actions

At the breifing we where told the car in front was responsable for the car behind, Therefore I would say he was told to recover the stuck vehicle as there was not enough room to manoover the stopped vehicles at the top of the track.
As the logan club representative stated that the logan club would not cover any damage to any vehicles, shouldn't the organiser have organised recovery vehicles. The visitors should not be left to do the recoveries or run tail end charlie.
The club needs to decide which it will be, recover or each his own. On the old runs there was a recovery point check n basic recovery equipment check, none on this run.
It is good that the club does do the runs but they have to decide on a protocol, all that this situation has shown is drive around the stuck vehicle n keep on going.
We have been caught before with a burnt out winch motor n broken motor support bracket, so unless the recovery is simple or you are good freinds with the person you really have to decide how much you want to help them, n god forbid someone gets hurt.
Enough babble from me.

Hey Guy... Don't bite my head off please, but can I just say that these type of comments don't help us (us being the media) at all, threatening clubs with outing them for something that has gone wrong isn't the right way to go about this. These sort of comments are what help to make us not welcome at events, and even if we do have the backing of a mag, thats not going to help when they want a story of an event being held by a club that doesn't welcome you along for the trip.
We as motorsport journalists and photographers rely on these sort of trips and events to make our money, and although i understand your upset over the damage made to your winch, as others have stated, the recovery was made at your own discretion. Yes you are right, most of us wouldn't have left the guy stuck there, but you also need to think whether your back pocket can handle the breakages if they are to happen. We all take risks everytime we go out, whether it is with a club or with friends. And as we all know, things can happen at any time and cause alot of damage. But being that this is the sport we all love, we still carry on doing it. Also you need to remember that everyone has to start somewhere.
You don't wake up one morning and just become someone who is capable of tackling harder tracks, but without the attempt being made by these less experienced people, how would they learn.
And even those who are very experienced 4x4ers still have accidents. This person may not have had a fully equipped vehicle, but that doesn't mean he or she had any less right to be there. We ALL had to start somewhere. as I said in the beginning of my post, PLEASE don't bite my head off for this, as I am only speaking from the mind of someone who also loves to promote this sport, and felt that your anger was maybe being misguided towards members of this forum, Being in the position that we are in gives us somewhat of a responsibility to act in a decent way even when things don't go right for us, because in the end it is not just ourselves that we are downgrading in being like that, it is also the media outlets who sign our pay checks. I have written for Overlander, 4x4 Australia, 4wd Monthly, Dirtcomp and 4x4 Action New Zealand mag), and I can honestly say that the editors (including Matt (Overlander) ) of all those magazines as well as their employees wouldn't be happy about there magazines titles being involved in sledging matches, whether you have a valid reason for doing so or not, We are small fish in there very big ponds, and the hard work you put into getting published by these guys is not worth being wasted over a few angry words on a great 4x4in forum.

So please before you get angry at me for what I have written... take a deep breath and think about what I have said. It is in no way demoralysing or ignoring the fact that you have sustained damage to your car during a club event, Just that maybe you should direct your anger towards the right people. The Logan Club doesn't run outers, yes there members may post here but hey we all do... ;) Also please take into consideration that these comments are coming from a mate, and someone who knows the disheartment in damaging your vehicle while trying to help someone else out, But I am also someone who has had to have others help me out as well. It goes both ways and I am sure that your help was extremely appreciated and that the guys involved felt about 2 foot tall after it happened.
The small of it is.. things can go wrong anywhere, anytime, including at big events who have proper safety procedures and designated recovery vehicles, I know this is something you have witnessed first hand, Don't let the anger from this get in the way of you doing something you enjoy doing, because it could come back to bite you in the future, eveyone that posts on here are potential customers for you and the front that they see here, before they meet you is definalty something they take away with them. Don't let yourself or your business suffer by voicing your anger in the wrong areas.. Yeah I know this is just my 2 cents, and you and everyone else may not have wanted to hear it, but I truley love doing what I do, and know that you do too... I would hate to see your future in this business suffer because of it.

Cheers

If you didn't say it i would have, I've been missing out on the action by not keeping up with this. CAPS LOCK IS ON FAR LEFT OF KEYBOARD ABOUT THE MIDDLE Ah thats better. hey posting up negative stuff creates more attetion and your on your own so ur cedablity has drop a shitload, no one likes to refuse helping someone out but hey i bet it would have been a alot easier to tow him back with the billions of dollars of stuff you have and let him turn around and head back to the farm or give it another shot why not take it up with the guy you recovered it ain't the clubs president fault he turned up un-prepepaired. Why don't you go out set up a run and i'll roll mine over and you can foot the bill, that's what your asking someone who isn't resopsable for your problem to do. Dude see a doctor your cut up real bad oh but i suppose you'd want the club to pay for that aswell. i better stop before he blows his head.

this is a had to be there argument n I didnt see you there, but if you were y didnt you do the recovery? There where sercumstanses that where in place I would have sent the farm truck back down the hill, as I reversed another dudes down, there was no way he was gunna make it on his own so he should of called it quits. If you come out on a hard run you should be self sufficeint, have enough gear to get yourself out. Think of it this way there was no club tail end charlie so if we were on a map run they would still be there, is this how things should be? Another more setup truck bent a steer linkage so left early the farm truck should know their capabilities, a hard run is not where to find this out. Everyone needs to start n learn some where n day trips n easy to moderate runs are the place for it.
Guy having been burnt in a similar way a few times take it as a learning curve n next time someone askes for help just say no cos the last time you got burnt, cos if they cant afford a $500 winch they cant afford to fix yours, so wheres the insentive to help?
From what I saw of your truck you take safety seriuosly as do we n have your truck setup for your safety, if some one else doesnt think that much of there safety why should you? all this points to is look out for number one.
Im not defending one or the other just pointing out the facts. There are some people with opinions that they should keep to themselves as if your not there you cannot know the full story. As the person that got recovered didnt even have a handle for there jack they should not of been there n as mentioned above he was directed to retreive the vehicle as was I when another truck got stuck after we drove up. I will point out while we were recovering that vehicle the trip leader left n I didnt recognise any members that were left as there was only me n Guy that continued and the others were non members aswell that lead the other cars back down the hill n out to the road.
I would like to thank AlbyOne for the help and the others who I will not name for there assistance retreiving the vehicles n leading them out also for streightening the steer linkage on the other dudes GU.
The club should help with the repairs as other clubs have done the same when requesting participants to help with recoveries. I'm sure there are members in the club that can get the parts for bugger all.
AT THE BREIFING IT WAS SAID "ITS A TAG ALONG YOU ARE RESPONSABLE FOR HELPING THE VEHICLE BEHIND YOU" IF THAT IS NOT A DIRECT STATEMENT TO DO THE RECOVERY WHAT IS? The club should be fair about this but this is not the place to take it up, but as the trip leader was not able to be contacted on the night I can understand what has happened.
