May I have some info on the 4K engine conversion? Is it worth doing? Is it straight forward? Could it be attempted at home? Is $550 for engine and gearbox reasonable? Thanks in advance.

don't do it you are not really getting any improvement over the 1L. I have the 5k which is the 1500 and that is not a great motor in the scheme of things. It is more torquey but runs a lot warmer. If you are going to go the engine swap either go a 1.3L Sierra or 1.6L Vitara or maybe look at the 8K 1800 Toyota. the conversion itself isn't too hard. That's my 02c worth

Yeah okay thanks Graham. But my 1L needs some work anyway and it's not really worth reconditioning. Might as well swap it out. If the 4K conversion is easy to do, it might be a better option than taking the 1L apart. I'd also get a 5-speed instead of the 4 speed. What about more exotic options like the Toy 4A-GE RWD motor or the Nissan CA18DET?

The 4A swap is an awesome swap. A guy in the Sydney Zook club has done it. I also looked at a LWB one to buy a couple of years ago. Very Tidy conversion but geez was it quick spinning all 4 wheels in 3rd doing about 140 but this was the fully supercharged worked version, he used it to tow a 24' boat :shock:

Another guy in our club has just swapped a SR20DE S13 from a Nissan Silvia. Heaps of power etc nice conversion

I ran a 4k in my old Zook and i couldn't kill it even we ran NITROUS on it.
Easy conversion as well.

Guys the Toy engines have to be the easiest conversions ever for these things. I had never done one befor and never even seen one fitted but fitted a 2T celica engine from start to finish in about 10 hours and drove it in the shed and back out again in that time frame. We didnt use a welder or have to pay to get a tailshaft changed. The only power tool we used was a drill and a grinder.

If you remove the 1ltr and just lower the 3k/4k in to the engine bay it will just hit you hard in the face how easy they go in.

Sam can prob make all ther adapters you need anyway.

Good friend of mine has had the 4AGE in his zook for as long as I can remember and is in the process of fitting a 4AGZE to his new zook.

It's not a hard thing to do provided you mate the engine to the right gbox, put in new engine mounts and get a custom intermediate shaft made :)

best thing is it will shit all over the vit 16v efi 1600 conversion and cost you less money. you can get a 4A front cut for around $1700. which is what you want as most places forget to pull the fuel sending units and other assorted wires out when the strip the engine bay

Ok I'm resurrecting an oldie....Can you all post all info needed for any of these "easy" toyota swaps. The $agze swap seems pretty hard considering you have to convert to a hydraulic clutch and swap all the EFI over. How bout we get a good complete HOW TO how of this

4k conversion is a piece of cake it also gives the option of auto as well [which i did]very happy with it and the auto is awesome offroad as well.i performed the swap at home .as far as extra heat problems i run a hq 6 cyl radiator and it has never been over a quarter on the guage.
84 model hardtop, 86in wb, 36 iroks, locked front and rear, lux diffs, exo, power steer, fuel injected 4k corolla 1.3,auto transmission ,2in wheel spacers,3/4 elliptic rear

One major obstacle for you using one of our how-to's could be that your zook has the steering wheel on the wrong side :finger: :D .

Why not go to a non-injected 4A (1600cc) or a 3A (1450cc) with a cable toyota gearbox(K50). It is an easy conversion but the exhaust is on the RH side. Depending on the model, the 3A can have more power than the base 4A.
I cant comment on the 4A, but the 3A has looks of torque than a Suzuki 1.6 and good kpl...but it is heavier, so the front springs need to be upgraded.

Doesn't anyone feel dirty at the thought of putting a non-suzuki engine into their 4wd?

Anyway has anyone considered any b6 from a Mazda, they come in all configurations (efi,carb,16v,8v,fwd, rwd... they even have a 16v carb engine :)), are available in several ford and mazda vehicles

and are physically similar size to the g series engine. The only annoying thing is that the oil-filter is on the intake side.

Still a B6T stripped of it's turbo, complemented by a sc12 supercharger and miata rwd extractors and gearbox would be a good comparison to a 4agze.
