Just wondering when the timing chain etc.. is due to be changed in a petrol 80 (1FZ-FE).

Cheers.

While it's off i'd also recomend doing cam and crank seals and tensioner beats pulling/paying to have it done 30/40 thousand dowm the track thats for belt didn't he ask about chain tho i'm unsure if there belt or chain most chains go a long time unless it's a magna

I was always under the impression that petrol 80's had a chain and not a belt, therefore it did not need routine replacement.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Yes, it has a chain!!!

No specified replacment interval AFAIK, guess life of the engine or other symptom would be the go.

timing

Post by WXC »

I spoke to a mechanic mate today and he said that being a timing "chain" it's not something that needs regular changing, (regular being every 100thou or so!) Like a timing "belt" would.

thanks heaps for your feedback!
