surf help

Post by 88pajero »

My paj is on its last legs so I am looking out for something else. I have found a surf with a turbo diesel 200000ks in what appears to be good nic. My question is how good are these things? What faults should I look out for? How many ks can I expect from the donk and how many till i should rebuild the turbo? And finally, I am use to having heaps of clearance soooo, what would I have to do to run at least some 31-32s? I run 33s on my paj but I want the next beast to be a bit more sedate...

I don't know about the engine, but as for the tyres, 31's will fit stock, some 32's might also, a 2" lift will be plenty, (I had 33's on my 4Runner with just 2" of lift)

Cheers, that at least answeres one of the big qs. I forgot to mention that it is a 1990 model. on the bit of paper in the window it sais that it is a 2.4l but when I popped the bonnet there was 2.0l written on some of the plumbing that went over the rocker cover...

Head over to the Surf Forum, there's a heap of collective knowledge there.

Hi. i have a 90' 2 door 2.4l manual surf.
i dont seem to have a problem. just keep up the oil & fuel changes.
you might want to do a timing belt change. some of the guys run 33's with 2"lift.
happy surfing.

Were you frightened by a Surf as a kid. You seem to have a hate for them. Maybe you should seek some help.

No Nev I don't 'hate' them, I don't 'hate' any motor vehicle if I had that sort of attitude I'd be out of a job.But I'm very cautious in recommending that some one spend thousands of dollars on an imported vehicle that has inherent problams that are costly to fix if the owner is unlucky enough for these problems to occur.
And Nev this isn't a personal attack on you or your vehicle it's an observation let's not have another shite fite.

it proberly had 2LT written on it? if so thats normall...the motor model number is 2LT not 2 litre.

the 3 litre vers are better motor wise. the 2.4 diesel has its fair share of problems, the biggest being is they are old, have high milage and have wound back milage. if it says 200,000 then its proberly more like 300,000.

the motrs can last 400,000 easy enough IF looked after. however small engined 4x4's tend to get thrashed.

check it fully before buying.
