gq steering box onto lux

Post by Guy »

Is it worthwhile fitting up a GQ power steer box to a hilux ( as IFS yota boxes seem to be hard to get and kinda expensive)

depends what you are doing, i have gq steering box in mine, was easy to fit, shortened steering shaft and used gq yoke for the steering box.. i have coiled gq front diff, so used the gq drag link also, this is where you may run into troubles, is this for hi-steer??

try asking the wreakers if they will swap your old one for a ifs as there ain't as many of the older style ones around and heaps of ifs ones.

80 series? same spline on the steering shaft and usually cheaper than ifs, with the added bonus of forward facing pitman arm.

My current unit is non ps .. I have decided if I am going to upgrade I may as well go all the way and ditch the push pull setup as well as the torque rod thingy (I would like to do rears up front etc as well to help clear 33's or 35 etc etc)
It appears to be cheaper and better to do it that way than pay for a new torque rod, drop arm and still have the wimpy J Arm etc on the stock steering.
