Should i keep air con or not?
My air con in my GQ has been farked for the last 2 years or so and i have neaver had air con in the air con since i owned it but that's becuase it need regasing and a couple of wires back in the compressor that were pulled out.
Is there any air con experts here and can tell me what the ussally go is when re gasing air con and stuff is there usally a few other things that need to be done etc?
The reason i'm thinking of taking it out is becuase i don't use it but that's becuase it doesn't work and i'm thinking about taking the whole thing out all that radaitior thingo and fan and all the pipes and stuff and then i can fit my new intercooler much easyier and get rid of all that ugly pipe and junk.
Then running a intercooler out front then air con rad and then the engine rad arn't i going to have a few cooling issues??
I'll make a poll and get everones oppion as i don't if i should take it out and neaver have air con again or leave it there and try work around all the pipes and remove that fan etc..
Thanks alot for ya help
Rick.

Yeah true matechimpboy wrote:Just fix the farking air con you slack bugger.
Don't you ever plan to have a young lady in the car with you? Wanna spend the whole time apologising for how uncomfortable it is?
You can add a second compressor for endless air without much difficulty.
But if she gets hot she may need to take clothes off then
no point just getting it re gasssed, and technically its illegal just to do a regas without first locating and repairing the leak (im a fridgie, not automotive though) there are still some cowboys out there that will just re gas it, but it will be a waste of money, if you want to keep it, take it to someone reputable, get them to pressurize the system with nitrogen or put a colour dye in it and locate and repair the leak. a straight re gas is a waste of your money, it will just leak straight back out, might last one day, might last 2 months, depends on the size of the leak. i havent voted. weather you keep it or not depends on the climate you live in. my aircon is dead, compressor is buggered, i havent removed it yet, but im going to as mine is only used for hardcore trips and comps. the mrs still drives it to work 3 days a week too, but its only 5 mins from home. it depends on how much travel time you spend in the car and weather or not heat bothers you. my rig has 4 aircons, you just have to wind them down
yes it will, but i believe there are ways around it, ie squirting a bit of oil into it before use, ive heard of other mods that use grease. i dont know whats involved though, maybe someone thats done it can replyevanstaniland wrote:i herd that doing this the pump will end up ceasing due to no oil flow*BESTY* wrote: Turn pump into endless air compressor

exactly, if its a weekend toy and you can live with the heat, get rid of it and go endless air. if its a daily driver and you live in an area of hot climate get it fixed and buy a good quality 12V compressor for airing up tyres.j-top paj wrote:but it all depends on what you use the truck for?
is it a weekend toy? a DD?
I admit I don't go off-road as much as the hardcore guys here, but I still used my air con plenty off-road.
The reasons to keep air con are many:
- it's more comfortable
- it's better for resale... good luck getting a decent price with no air con
- it helps demist windows big time
- it lets you keep fumes out (in traffic) and dust/mud out (off-road)
The reasons not to keep it are:
- you are a lazy carnt who doesn't maintain his vehicle properly
I'm even adding air con to my convertible. I lived without air con for years in my first few cars, no way am I going to do it again!

This is not legal advice.

i voted keep it, do you realise how much there is to pull out, its not just a pump and some lines in the engine bay, for what it would cost to get it fixed your better off having it..
find another way to route your ic and ic pipes..

I just found out today that my air con would have used a differnet gas to what is used these days and all my seals would have to be changed and looking at roughly $600 to change the seals and then new flexi AC pipe and new dryer maybe and whatever else that needs fixing.. so really not sure if i wanna keep it ..

contray to popular belief, tassie summers are actualy a hotter heat than other parts of aus so i can understand y ya love itcrankycruiser wrote:My triton has air con and my 80 doesnt.....

oh and i live in tassie
i know plenty of queenslanders that have come down here mid summer and complained about the heat when the actual temp is lower than QLD... tis funny what having the ozone hole almost direct above the state does

i paid $670 for a new sanden compressor ,all o-rings,tx valve, adaptor, drier and regas. they also had to change the piping because the fittings on the new compressor were different.Mulisha wrote:Thanks matemud4b wrote:i voted keep it, do you realise how much there is to pull out, its not just a pump and some lines in the engine bay, for what it would cost to get it fixed your better off having it..
