G60's

Post by Ol'40 »

G'day all, I have to declare I am a fj40 driver. But a mate of mine, Mark (after breaking his leg badly twice on dirt bikes) has decided to put his very nice G60 middy back on the road. He is in the process of fitting a Gmh 308 into it and we have just got him a nice second hand soft top for it at a great price.
We were just wondering how many other G60 owners were out there in outers land and what your doing with them....

Cheers Boys..

Unfortunatly Mark is not computer literate and doesnt own a computer and Im a computer dinosauer but we will get some photos up for you.

Cheers and thanks....Gaz

Hello from Greece,

I am in the proccess of buying a G60 minus axles, suspension, transmission and engine (not much left really! ).

For the axles I am thinking of using GQ, converting them for leaf springs. Other options are MQ, but a set I have found is with drum brakes on the front. Are the original springs the same with MQ or not? Are there any after market leaf springs? What are the original axles of this model?

As for the engine, is the original 6 cylinder any good? I may be able to get it, but is it worth the trouble? One option I am considering is a 2,7 turbodiesel from a Terrano (do you have this one an Aus?).

Hi and welcome to OL's,

The MQ axles have been installed by other and from what I here if you use the MQ springs as well, you will need to move the spring hangers about 20mm out each side. Not sure if you need to relocate the axle position on the springs (I'm sure someone else knows).

If you are talkin the 2.7TD out of the older pathfinders and Navara's I would say your dreaming as they were gutless in the Pathy's and Navaras. The standard G60 P Motor put out 109kw and 318Nm. By memory the old 2.7TD put out 58Kw@2400, 173Nm@2200, see
http://www.marks4wd.com/misc_info/engin ... ssanNavara

I reckon if your going to the extent of whole new axles and drive line just find a doner MQ or even GQ and take the complete drive line including axles across. Either way your going to need t change engine, gearbox, spring handger mounts. The later you go the easier on spare parts.

Steve

PS - The Terrano is the Pathfinder over here, Navara is also the Nissan Hardbody or Pickup. (PS, I have had both with the Z24 Petrol)
PSS - you got some photos of the Greek G60 ! havnt heard form many others your way with G60's.

Hi Steve and thanks for the reply.

The G60 is a wreck now, it will take much work to make it a real car. But it is very rare in Greece, I have just seen only one other yet.

The Terrano engine I am talking about is about 97-00 model and puts out 125 bhp and 270 Nm. Other option is a 3 lt. from a Patrol.

MQ and expecially GQ parts are quite easier to find here.

I would take the complete MQ driveline (Engine, box, transfer, diffs) and put on the G60 chassis, MQ axles are set up for leave springs and so on. But end of the day I'm sure it will be based on cost and availability so good luck.

G60

Post by tbjaus2000 »

Count me in.

Despite what 99.9% of people think, there seems to be something about a brick on wheels...

73' G60H 308 33x12.5 Disc powered stopping (thank god), and pwr steering (losing biceps & beach muscles...!).

I have been contemplating making a aus wide g60 club - any thoughts?
just imagine a troop of G60's going through the hills...
