I dont know how far out anyone elses protrudes. Mine is now covered by the bumper. I had to cut a hole in the front for the fairlead. The bumper is 75mm higher than stock position(bodylift) and ONLY 15-20mm forward of stock. Back of winch clears radiator by 25mm. I didn't want anything sticking out the front to get hung up on/reduce ramp angle.

The 2-300mm clearance allows spotties, winches, antenna's to be mounted behind the bar. Also gives some squash room between the bar and the body should you ever hit something hard.

I am going to get a bar made or make one some time soon! :twisted:

The only thing is that most custom jobs apart from want33s all look like they hang down a heap?

Why is this? i want mine tucked up as high as it can be and in as much as i can!(might cut the grill too put the winch further back!)
Is it a must that it hang's down that low or just trying to protect spring hangers or something?

Had no issues at all.

The lights i have used for the parkers and blinkers are common for people who have had modded bars as i have seen a few sierras with them I just mounted them on the headlight surround instead of on the corners.



Suzuki boy... My bar is angled up at the bottom i now have much better approach angle but as all leaf sprung suzuki's you hit you shackles anyway.

I have lightened a pic up so you migh be able to see it better.

They look like they hang down a lot as most of us have them mounted directly to the ends of the chassis rails, something like this:

Poor picture, but you can see how mine is mounted to the inside of the rails. Nice and strong mount, good for attaching recovery hooks or winches etc. The lowest point on mine is in line with the chassis rails.

what thickness are the uprights and what angle did you cut the tube on?
Hey smilysmoke the uprights are 3mm thick mild plate but it has a wide strip of steel bent and welded onto the front edge (no sharp edges to hurt pedestrians)
And the angles for the side pipes were simple i just guessed the first one and then roughly cut them all the same with a 4inch angle grinder and evened them all out with a bench grinder to get them all even! very easy and the result was good even with my almost non existent welding skills :cool:
And the 3mm is strong enough to hold up two 75kg dudes jumping on a tyre lever which was stuck into one of the side pipes!!!
....something to do with trying to tweak one of the pipes because it was on a slightly different angle... :D
Oh yeah and i mounted the little spotties like that because im getting 9inchers to fill the centre mounting points so i can have 6 forward facing lights :twisted:

hey kitika, neat look... although reminiscent of a character from ice age...

replace your headlights with aftermarket units incorporating the park lights, then leaves enough space on the side to cut and insert hella strip leds that are ADR approved a blinkers...

just a thought..

BTW bar is similar design to mine, neater finish though. Templates for uprights available as download from www.pointnshoot.org

Personally, i'd be running a plate on the top of the rail with either a dowel or bolt through the rail.

Sierra Chassis steel is thin, there isn't a lot of laterial forward of the factory BUMPER BAR mounts. You'll also need to run crush tubes through the chassis for added strength too.

Imagine a redneck driving a GQ snatching you out of a bog hole at warp factor 9.

If you look at the 2nd (+3rd) pic on page 2 you will see my crush tubes in the front of the chassis. They are actually cyclone rod joiners with 2mm ground off.

i see we are talking about mounts also. not a tubey but new mounts

here is my modded mounts for my arb bar for the 2" BL.

Basically made our own box section from 6mm with crushtubes.

Yeah looks like its on all aspects of doing a new bar set-up.
Its good that everyone is posting stuff relating to all aspects (eg lights, bar and mounts) cos at the end of the day its all handy information to have.
Gives guys already with custom bars options for changing lights and mounts too.

Looks strong at the chassis rail ends, and gets the two inch lift. Weren't you planning on cutting out a hole or two so that you could mount a winch?

If so, do you think the fact that it looks like you have cut the outside brackets (the ones that had to go to fit bigger rubber) will in any way weaken it?

Just wondering as i have an ARB bar (non winch) with the outer brackets gone, and would like to lift the bar for BL and would like to fit a winch.
