Upgrades for Jack?

Post by chikoroll_ »

i'm looking at getting my jack upgraded soon, and i'm scouting out the available upgrades, and DIY's

it's got a lot of life in the ol girl- '98 se 50th anni. edition (if that means anything to you)
126,000k's
mint condition all round
runs beautifly off road...
i'm getting Rocksliders in a few weeks- $600 100s landcruiser conversion installed

mainly interested in:
bullbars,
bull to slider barwork (can possibly do this at my mates factory if someone says the clearances needed)
rear steel bumper
lift kits (suspension and body)
tyre sizes which actually fit :P

;) and most importantly what i can do without going illegal/voiding insurance :P

cheers for the response :)

As far as insurance goes, as soon as you change anything without telling them, its void. And when you do tell them, expect either a stony silence, or a evil laugh as your premiums go sky high. Legalitys are pretty similar, though vary state to state, so check with your local first before doing anything if legality, or insurance issues alarm you :D

hey champ, strongarm do a steel rear bumper / wheel carrier assembly for jacks.

bullbars - plenty of choice, i run an arb steel winch bar with warnx9000 and 30mt plasma rope.

You can get the arb side bar mounts for the front and make side bars to suit, more clearance the better i say.

body lift - yeah can be done but not too many jacks have it, about an inch is no probs.

suspension, using stock front arms, about 40mm is the max you want to lift it, easy adjustment to torsion bars, matches most replacement rear coils. cheap and easy. For about 3 grand you can get the front kits to allow around 3 inches lift.

Tyres - 265/75/16 will fit without any mods or rubbing, i ran this size goodyear MTR's on my last jack- awesome  they will be legal when the new code is in, currently just outside the limit for diameter, but no-one will ping you on it. As far as my insurance was concerned, they are a legal fitment for the stock rim size so they are ok by them, they were only concerned if i was changing rim size. Gives another inch and a half lift to the rig.

my 98 had had inch and a half with the tyres and another inch and a half on the susp. made a huge difference. (yeah i know its no patrol 6 inch ;) )
and it was legal :) looked grouse i must say.

cheers Brad.

thanks all :)

does anyone have a link to a website with the rear bar?

is there any way to get larger wheel without having to cut into the bullbar mounts? (don't want it to snap when i lift it with the forklift or whatever)

can anyone advise on the prices of the lifts? (body and suspension)

cheers :D

all you have to do is drill a new hole and bolt it up before you cut the rear bolt off the bar. will get photos if you like

i see the dodgy ol 3.2L ones everywhere, but never the 3.5L, even google only provides 1 link in the first 100 pages.. and that looks like a dodgy company

i don't trust ebay for high cost stuff, too many dodgy stores without a face to back it
not too fussed on the kits either (bit sketchy about drilling a big arse hole in the side of my panel...
