Clang from front in 4WD

Post by HOBBLES »

Before i get it looked at, I just want a rough idea what could be wrong.

Not going off road for a few months i put my 98 G vitara in 4wd as it was wet and raining the other day and went for a play in the mud. When i turn left there is a loud clang coming from the front. It seems to go with the rotation of the wheels as well.

Clang.. clang... clang. Going right however its fine and when i put it back in 2WD its gone. No noise.

Mate of mine thinks it could be the CV joint?? Is it something thats easily fixed by adjusting? or might need it replaced?

Any other ideas?

might sound stupid but...

check that your wheel nuts are done up (speaking from experience  ) or maybe the wheel bearing is loose. Both easy fixes ;)

When you had it in 4wd was is driving the front at all? If not then could well be the CV.
