thoughts on body lifts
hi all I got a gq patrol with 3in spring lift and am thinking bout a body lift now, not sure if i want to go just 1in or go 2 in also wanting to know has anyone lift there lpg tank when a body lift has been done.
Can the motor and gearbox be lifted when this is done, any info would be great

I would sujest a 2"body lift and lift your lpg tank as well but deffinately not your engine and box. Though Gq's will benieft from a gearbox mount drop of about 35mm.

What are you trying to achieve by fitting the body lift? Fit bigger tyres?
Im also trying to work out how to lift the gas tank. Its looks pretty involved.
I have already lifted my rear bar which took a whole 20 mins, and my bullbar which cost a couple of hundred bucks.
You could buy raised engine mounts if you want to. Im pretty sure cheezy racing sells them.
I dont know whether you could raise the gearbox though

The other thing would be the deg angle on the drive sharft.

if I remembr correctly, the tank bolts to the chassis? So body lift wont move it... I *THINK* I remember someone mentioning moving mounts on the tank which required lots of money and retesting etc, or custom made to order tank, but that was 2+yrs ago..

i have done it 2inch body and didnot worry about the gearbox only thing i had to do was cut the metal around the low range stick if you donot do this it will not go in low if you are after a inch my be coil spacers would be enough cheaper about $45 ea any 4x4 shop should be able to help or you could diy is not hard
Wish I'd never put my body lift in. If you want clearance put the tank in the cab. If you want to fit bigger tyres trim your guards. If you want your car to look higher and have a higher centre of gravity, and you don't care about noisy mounts, then fit a body lift.

Body lifts are a pretty good idea as long as you are ware of the down side.
They make it easy to clean the chassis etc. More room for maintenance. Allows bigger tyres but keeps COG lower than susension lift.
They will effect you body mounts. I tore the back ones clean out. The front ones were cracking around therad support panel. The ones under the driver and passenger feet had also completely torn out. Mine is a comp truck but still they need to be strengthened if you are serious about oing off road.
I still have 50mm body lift and wouldn't be without it, beside I couldn't fit my motor in without it!

93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)

THERE ARE A FEW REASONS WHY BODY LIFTS GO IN. 1 IS THAT THEY ARE A CHEAP WAY TO LIFT THE BODY FOR EXTRA CLEARANCE. ANOTHER REASON IS TO KEEP LOWER CENTRE OF GRAVITY. SO THERE IS NO POINT IN LIFTING THE MOTOR AND BOX BECAUSE YOU A DEFEATING THE PURPOSE, AND WE ALL KNOW HOW HEAVY A TD OR TB42 AND BOX ARE. YOU DONT NEED TO LIFT THE DRIVELINE UP TO MAKE A BODY LIFT WORK SO I WOULDNT BOTHER. AS FOR THE GAS TANK THEY CAN BE DIFFICULT BUT CAN BE DONE WITH A FEW MODS TO THE MOUNTS OR SEE IF YOU CAN REDRILL THE HOLES HIGHER!!
