Gas problem?? 92 SWB Maverick
Gas problem?? 92 SWB Maverick
This morning driving to work my Mav stalled on me, did a big "shudder" and then conked out. Tried starting it two more times and it stalled pretty much straight away both times.
I still have half a tank of gas so i know i'm not out. I flicked over to petrol and it ran no worries.
Had the safety switch replaced in it a few months ago so i don't think it's that again.
Since i've had the car (Dec 06) it has been serviced @ 300, it's now only done 302 now. However since i've had it, it's always seemed to "miss" when idling at lights and so on....
Any ideas? Or just take it to a gas specialist?

my ex boss' would do this also.. quiet often lead to backfires and very rough idle and almost like it was out of gas... ended up trading the car in...
Cant really help but know the problem you are having... could it be something to do with the mixtures possibly?!? the gas isnt freezing on its journy to the carbie is it!?
Pics might give a little bit of info on the setup, but most likely a trip to a gas specialist will solve the problem..

hmm i can't really get a picture now, the boss will be onto me!! hahaha.
dad used to be a mechanic and over the phone to me he said it's hard to tell (much like on here) but he told me to check the obvious things ie water (to make sure there was plenty) and if low then it could be freezing it over, so did that at luunchtime and it's full. everything else looks in place but then again i don't know very much at all about gas....

LPG setups are very picky on ignition. If you have points best bet is to have them replaced, that will stop backfire though the caby and even helps stop the miss at idle.
As for your stalling problems check to see if all the solenoids are working properly by supplying power to them manually, if one goes the gas will stop flowing, also check to see if you have any splits or holes in your gas line from the converter to the mixer, that will activate the low pressure cut off.
if all that fails, there could be a blockage in your mixer or converter, most likely the converter.

Oh shanks heaps guys for your comments! you all sound like your familiar with this problem. I am going to avoid taking it to a gas guy atm and get my boyfriend to replace the spark plugs and leads, he said something about looking at the points to see if their burnt out as well...( ) I will print out your comments and he can have a browse.
Thanks again

one thing on the points. they don't have to be burnt out for Gas to play up. just the tiniest bit worn down. I had my old mav (1990 on Dual Fuel) and i replaced the points, less than 2000K's later, backfires though carby and missing at idle, replaced it with a crane cam Fireball XR700 pointless ignition system, after that no backfires though carby, and the only time it missed at idle was extreme cold weather or when the plugs were worn down.
Gas is so sensitive to the electrical side of things, if you have gas and points, ditch the points, simple as that.

ok well i am getting my boyfriend to replace, plugs and leads. i rang to order the parts but they need to know if it's electronic ignition or not, i wouldn't have a clue....but if it's not apparently it's best to change the points over to that or something I don't know, i'll find out tonight exactly what i need to order. I'll mention the resistor to my boyfriend, GQSWB42td!

Have a look on this forum for the petronix ignitor conversion. you can buy them from i think its call on track 4WD. its a points replacement system for your Ignition.
I ran the crane cam fireball which i found alot better especially since its optical sensor driven not HAL affect.
Give points the flick, they are more trouble then they are worth with gas
