Why not do as nicbeer suggested. Make some panel work and dovetail it
i totaly agree full bodied zooks look heaps better
The rear section was dented and had rust
Main reason for the chop is to fit on the LWB chassis
With the truck being for weekend duties only the rear will only get smashed up any way
Seek solace in the fact that it’s NOT going to have Yota diffs (all Zook build)

I can hear the screams from here, that poor Suzi getting butchered. Getting bashed up on rocks, and hitting trees etc is natural and OK, but angle grinders are painful.
But its good to hear that its going to be an 'ALL ZOOK BUILD', champion, thats cheared me up now! AFter that recent thread on NT vs WT, I'm wondering what axles will be going under it?
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
I know the lala reguarding butchered zooks and thats fine with me, good zooks should remain that way
This one whilst not completley bashed has had a rough life already
At the end of the day it's what I want so it's what i will buid
Like I said it will be fun and panel work will just get damaged
I will be running WT diffs on NT spings SOA, Series 3, 33's with the 1600 and auto (parts I already have)
Will do RUF with a chassis extension, Not sure with the rear yet
When budget permits Detroit Locker in the rear and ARB for the front

Was that when the surfboard fell on it in the garage?

I have my p's for 2 months now and i think you would be puxhing to find a straight pannel on it!
Like fool injected it's what i brought it for so who cares!
Looking good so far! Keep the pics coming!
Don't do it suzukiboy, there is just no good reason.
You will increase the cars COG as the weight will have to go higher up
The car will look like a mess
There is ALWAYS some sort of wierd angle going on in the back of the tub because of the wheelarch
They always look crap
If it allowed you to run a bigger tyre or something, sure, but it just doesn't- any tyre you can run on the front you can run on the back.
no offence Fool_injected - I understand you have a LWB chassis and a SWB tub, and that might be the only thing that makes it right.

No offence taken here, as I said this is what I want so this what i will build
Everybody is entitled to their opinion and we all often voice it on here
After all this is outers, your either think skinned or a sook
I am sure my planned build will change several times mainly through the influance of this forum.
All feedback and guidance from all members is invaluable when embarking on build.
As you said the LWB chassis was a big deciding factor with the ute chop, just cant go past that extra wheel base.
Thinking of trying to fill the arch section in. That’s the only bit I don't like about most chops.

IMHO this is how to stretch a SWB tub. The sides could be pretty much any material, but polycarb would be cool until the sun got to it and made it brittle.
PS this is an oldie but a goodie.... this is how it competed in a rcokcrawling comp well back in the day. I still think there are lots of things about this car that are soooo right.

Toyed wit that sort of idea today
Put the cut tub on the LWB chassis with the rear section on the rear mounts
Rather have nothing there to crease and dent
The tub currently has 45'd sills. Thinking about replacing this with square section. If I continue it back to the rear firewall there is only small part of the arch that needs filling. But the arch 'mould' is still there
You could also cut the whole arch arch out and replace it with a flat sheet with the groove folded in the bottom section.

I reckon do it like Jake Hallenbacks orange in the post above
And I did use mine and did lean it into ruts and walls etc I just didn't thrash the vehicle. Driving hard and driving irresponsibly are two different things. I just don't see the point in flogging a car so hard that you damage it each time you go out. Obviously the vehicle or the driver aren't up to the driving situation and should reassess what they are doing
The rockcrawler posted above looks a bit big, but definetly
anyone have any more pics of it? im interested in the spare mounting in particular.
Grim, i like how your exo was kept clean with the vehicle and tied thru the bonnet, instead of looking like a birdcage around the thing.
Keeping it narrow and tight like that looks sweet I reckon. A set of decent sliders/heavy duty 45d sills and some tube doors and the thing wouldn’t look like a mess, and would have plenty protection up against banks like the ones posted...
Even some flares could be tied in to protect quarters, somewhat like MART’s blue rig, all the while not looking too “exoâ€

Careful there Graham
Most of the panel damage I did to the G I did without even knowing, or being able to avoid it. Does that make me or my car not up to the driving situation? No- it means that when you drive a lot of hard trips in a car, sometimes it comes into contact with the ground.
I have done panel damage each time I taken Hedgepig out. This is beacuse it is too narrow. I am aware of this, but I have very little money in the car and won't stop driving it because I think I might damage it - I bought and built it to drive hard tracks and consider the panel damage to be a wear and tear item to do the trips I am doing.
Over the years you had your car you did lots of trips when we were driving less technical terrain and relatively few once we started to get into the really technical stuff. When we drove Cypress Hill we all did panel damage, and so did you.
I understand that you have a different philosophy in relation to panel damage, but I ouwld be careful to explain it away as the result of a bad or abusive driver and/or a poorly set up car.
Steve.

That orange one from the US looks the goods but when you're running yota diffs and the tyres stick that far out there's not much chane of leaning it on the body work.

Totaly agree! Apart from the trips this guy did because i dont know him!
But i brought mine to drive like i do and take it too its limits!
It's a narrow track and we all know how they scape along banks and stuff!
I actually drive very carefully as my roll bar has been out of the car for a while but with front and rear lockers you dont have to hit every thing at 100kmh and you can drive responsably!
Built swb sierra, building a lwb sierra ute and have a dmax for family camping
Thing is... this car is the best reason why to NOT chop a zuk - what's wrong with this car? it is low, runs big tyres, and has never seen a trailer. Who cares if it looks rough? How could it possibly be better if the back was cut off of it?
Steve.

Thought hard about doing it Hallenback style but the stuff I play on is rocky which means damage
Havent got too much done in last two days.
Tub is sitting on the LWB chassis (on bricks) Need to cut the trans tunnel out to clear the auto.
The body lift spacers were all rusted. Will have to machine new threaded bits and gease them when I put them back together. Its a 3" kit too, might cut it back to 2"
Sitting 33s on SUA NT diffs (wt in other zook ATM)
Thinking about the chop I will probally cut it closer back to the targa bar. I wanted a little room behind the seats but the exo will look odd. Its currently cut at the 'crossmember' after the ramp up in the floor
All this talk on why not to chop has made me more determined to do a top build so you 'guys have to eat your words'
It's like SOO Zooks NSW-v-VIC, SOA-v-SUA, chop-v-not chop
