Air Tank Safety

I went down to bunnings today and got myself one of those 18 litre air tanks for $39. I am planning to place it between the rear of the passenger seat and my proposed drawer setup (no rear seats). I was concerned about the safety issues of having a 120psi tank behind the passenger seat in the event of a car crash. I was thinking of welding up a metal guard for it. Where do people usually mount them? It wont fit under the body. Opinions... Insight.....???

As long as its bolted down it should be ok. You will have to remove the rubber feet to mount it solid. A cargo barrier is cheap insurance as well.
Got one of them a couple months ago. I need the room in the back so its going to get mounted on the camper trailer.

Yeah a cargo barrier seems to be the go. I haven't seen one for my paj, but thats ok its an excuse for me to make something :lol:

What he said, 120psi is ok, if your compressor gets stuck on, 220psi is much worse (especially if tank is only rated to 150PSI).

and strap it down hard.

if you can have LPG tanks in a car, compressed air is insignificant in comparison.

My tank (40L truck airtank) is mounted behind cargo barrier on a LP gastank bracket picked up at the wreckers. Unbolts and lifts out when extra space required. I used locking airfittings and a 'stopflow' valve in case hose ruptures..

wow, a 40l tank would certainly help when inflating tyres.

After trying out numerous other combinations of tank size, this filled flat tyres the quickest. . And fits perfectly on the gastank mount. Plumbing was $$ but in the end well worth it. Merceedes Benz 40L airbrake tank. Filled by an Endless air with dryer/unloader valve.
