Redlining

Post by bwana »

This weekend, I found out that I obliviously don't have automatic cut-off. I red-lined while approaching a dune. The truck sputtered a little bit. Is there any long-term problem I should worry about having done this just once? I laid awake at night just shuttering at the sensation. Gross.

the spluttering was the revlimiter, thats what its for, so you dont over rev the engine. GO FOR IT
my old shorty use to hit the rev limiter alot

why? max power stops at mid 3000's tops and torque under 2800...

ahhh, so there is a revlimiter. cool. it's often hard to check the rpm when you're screaming toward a steep dune. one last thing to worry about.

mine won't go above 4500RPM. but it looks like the governor bolt seems to be stopping it. how do you back the bolt off to allow the engine to rev more

gotta wonder how efficient a td42 cam/head/top end is at 5-6 grand  my governor kicks in a around 4400, if i wanted more power i'd concentrate on getting more fuel and air in. Just can't imagine that the standard internals would like spinning around at that speed for too long (thats wat chevs are for).
But, if durability aint a concern then go for it :D

WHY? the diesel will have reached its max KW and NM well before then. whats the point of reving the titts of a diesel? :?

pint is to use excess fuel, overheat engine, look and sound like a w@nker, burn out the clutch if ya not carefull about it, and just generaly be a fool.

why on earth else would anyone do it??

just my thorts anyway...

altho if you have access to a GOVERNMENT VEHICLE!!!!!!!! then it just becomes fun coz ya can be a f-wit with thrashing ya truck and not have to pay a cent :D

before i got the trol i used to thrash the jabber around occasionally and i found that if i changed around 3600rpm it would be the quickest..
i used the torque of the engine rather than reving the crapper out of it for no reason.
i think the max KW was at 4000rpm but after that i didnt "feel" any point in reving it that hard.
BUT i still reved it to nearly 5k one night to see if i could get past 180kph (on a race track under controlled conditions of course ;) ) and after about 5mins i gave up as it wouldnt go any further even down hill
