I have posted this on another forum,but would like your opinions.My question is i have a 1989 Td42 and i want to turbo it for comps,but my pump is a in line one rather than the rotary type.
What turbo kits could i get to suit this ,as it has butter fly cap on the inlet manifold.
Can i modify this pump for more fuel or should i try and change it to the rotary type.

Hi Colm,
your best bet would be gonig to a rotary version, but then you would have to modify it. I dont know if the gear set is the same though. What sort of power are you looking for? This will determine kit type.

I live in Athlone its in the midlands.The comps in Ireland are manily winch comps and plenty of power sapping ground.The tyres i am running are 38 1/2 baja claws so i need al the power i can get,I was going to run a PWR water to air intercooler as well and a holley blue fuel pump to help the in line pump.
The biggest concern i have is the throttle being controled by the intake manifold.All kits i have seen seem to be for rotary type.So what do think lads

Its only being controlled by the butterfly in the manifold to generate a small vacuum signal to make the governor work, very similar to a toyota 2h pump.
This will not affect turbo operation.
I say wind it up, dyno it and see what you make. Then if you want more, either mod a rotary pump or find a bosch dieselspecialist in the golden pages under diesel engineer to help you. He may be able to give you bigger elements to make more fuel.
Have never modded an inline pump like this, it make be a long work in progress to find items that fit.

Thanks for the info Andy. The pump i have is KiKi brand,the problem over here is if its not landrover no really has a clue.And i hate landrovers, that was one off the main reasons building this ,i cant wait to see there faces when i go to the first comp.
I met a guy from a dutch company in england at a motor show,he had nothing but good words for TD42 ,so might give him a buzz.
What type off mods to injectors would ye lads suggest

did not like the EFI pump in the tank with a bypass teepice with restricker back to return line idea i gave u on the other forum mate. check this out better than holly blue just my two cents worth was only running 10 psi at the time but with this set up have run 20 psi no problem. eather way take it to the landrovers http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z276 ... thy114.flv

at tghe moment injectors can stay as standard, just bump up opening pressures to 120 bar.
I was experimenting with other injectors in mine, but had a slight mishap, so cant play at the moment.
Give these guys a call, http://www.corryautoengineering.com/ they are a bosch diesel centre, so will know the zexel or kiki pump as well. I dont know how far they are from you, but was going to see them when I was last over there but time didnt allow.

In regards to this Andy I have found the butterfly makes the turbo more laggy as the continuous excess air at idle that you associate with a diesel isnt there, turbo speeds at idle are lower so the vehicle tends to be less snappy.Dzltec wrote:Its only being controlled by the butterfly in the manifold to generate a small vacuum signal to make the governor work, very similar to a toyota 2h pump.

This does affect part throttles also. The lack of a throttle is the one main advantage of diesel over Petrol.

cool man i agree the more minds the better and there are so awesome minds on here that setup is as follows i use a rb25 off a skyline high flowed and steel wheeled and it spooles up as low as 1200 rpm and can get 10 psi free rev at 2000 rpm on start line and it rocks.Will hold 20 psi to 5000 rpm and more
