GQ TB42 Turbo and i have just finished fitting all my intercooler piping and i was thinking what happens when i'm driving up a very very dusty hill and i back off and my BOV goes off will dirt or dust get in there before it closes shut.
Also at the extreme case my BOV is under water and i back off the throttle what happens then it just sucks in a little water before it closes or something.
Only reason i'm asking is becuase were i have put my BOV out of the eyes of the law it may get a fair bit of dust when 4wding from the clutch fan and stuff like that..
How many pounds of preasure is required to blow the valve. If its say its 15 lb then it will still have probably 10lb blowing past it as it shuts deffinatally won't let any dust/water or mud in.

It's got a 11 psi spring and i'm getting a new tune Thursday and will be running 15 or so psi.
I think id be going for a pumb back to be on the safe side.i ran a external blow of on my offroad race buggy years ago and sometimes got dust into the inlet manifold

Oh ok ..hmmm.. i noticed Birdy runs a external bov ut his is much higher in the engine bay then mine and he runs a fark load of psi ..
I seriously doubt any performance benefit would be had in your diesel (I assume it's manual) from a blow off valve. Personally, I would give it a miss.

Rick, I know in vic it illegal to have you BOV vened to atmosphere, QLD is generally stricter than vic.... look into it sunshine. Plumbing it back into your intake will also give ya less lag.
www.autospeed.com has written many articles on these over the years and the conclusion is the benefits are nil in anything remotely road useable.

Also if your engine runs a MAF sensor, it'll go rich everytime the BOV vents and throws away air the computer thinks is going through your engine. Most ricer cars blow black soot out the back with every gearchange.
With a recirculating BOV, the air stays in the loop, so the engine doesn't run rich.
I'm after the noise so when draging WRX's with my neon's and my cannon roaring everyone can hear the bov as well
Reason i wanted to know so i don't fill my intake up with dust and shit and i would have gone plumb back but i already have the bov from the turbo kit i brought and why waste a $400 bov when i can use it and it's not going to be that loud anyway due to the fact in doesn't have trumpet and it's got large and many ports.
your car doesnt hit dirt anyway so what are you stressing about

If it's worth $400 - why not sell it???
But back on topic, I have seen some experiments/models of a similar case (a high pressure jet of air or water exiting from a hole/nozzle), and in certain situations, recirculation zones at the edges of the jet can cause air/dust to be re-entrained (sucked back in). So yes it is possible.

Yeah the car hadn't seen much dirt but it has of late

Oh ok thanks mate i'm making up a shield for the bov so it get covered in shit from the fan but the bov is mounted under the edge of my battery at the moment i'll take a pic..
to try stuff any of that crap...
