just a quick question about diesel
does anyone tend to find that when you use diesel from Shell that it smokes a tiny bit more then when you use BP Diesel?
i did read that Bp has done somthing with the sulfer content which couses the smoke.
my ute hardly smokes, its well tuned, but i just find the small bit that does come out is more noticalbe when i use Shell diesel.
your thoughts or answers?

I cant speak for diesel, but i wont touch BP fuel in general..
Had a Hilux with a worked 202 red motor, and it was untuneable with any of the BP Premium fuels, I ran Mobil premium and it purred like a kitten. Shell was next best, will only use independant if they have a high turnover.

Caltex
I buy Caltex, have been told BP has a higher quality of fuel but the local BP stations don't sell enough Diesel to keep me happy.
The Caltex I buy from services the local industrial area so goes through a lot of Diesel which I figure has to be good - if they ever sell a bad batch of fuel then everyone would know about it quick smart.
Now if only I would remember to use the car bowsers when I want to fill Jerry cans up - the nozzle just won't fit from the truck bowser

My observations with my vehicle is that BP diesel is slightly more economical, maybe 10-15 ks a tank so its negligible.
Bio-diesel is noticeably less economical(20-30k/tank less), and doesn't give as much grunt, but my local has it for about 6cpl less than others with dino diesel, so it usually evens out, and its better for the environment.
The above is with a ~45L tank.
