1UZFE 80 series
Just wondering what people thought for an engine for an early 80 series.
I have an old 4lt which is dying in the arse, and was considering putting a 1UZFE motor into it.
is it worth doing or is it better to put the 4.5 in.
also does anyone know of hand what the price for a 4.7 v8 worth.

MUD, MUD, GLORIOUS MUD!
I have a 1UZ-FE in a GQ patrol wagon, HP is great, torque is not so.
I would put a 4.5 in then maybe turbo it if i were you.
Or find a 2UZ-FE (the 4.7)

No its for a sahara. not mine my old mans.stinky wrote:maybe getting off topic, and presuming your talking about the gxl;
if your going to do a chop chop, and the engine is dying, would you be better looking at getting another car altogether?
and mines diesel not petrol. wouldn't go from diesel to petrol, that would be downgrading

Motor yes, but wiring...no dash has to come out to get computers in there and harness is all different plugs 3f to 1fzfe,,,not to mention instruments and fuel pumps in tanks and fuel pressure lines to motor..all different...simkell wrote:Yeah was thinking that the 1uz was a little small. but swapping to a 4.5 do you really think it would be that hard? considering it came out of a 80 series and is going into an 80. i thought it would be a straight forward swap.
side note...the 4.5 was made as a torquey straight 6 and is of the family of the 1uzfe.. (zfe) u being v config and f being straight 6...like what your replacing... 2uzfe would be good, but again...wiring...
never done one myself but i cant see how the smaller 4lt lexus v8 would not be good for a 80 series... the one its going into has a 4lt strait 6..
how could the lexus not be as powerful? or push it along?

Put a Gen 3 in, buy a 1/2 cut, about $7000, get computer, loom engine and accesories in the deal, Marks adapter and a tune, heaps of torque Hp and that V8 sound and shave 50 kg off the front end.

I Heard that some-one in Rockhampton has a supecharged 1uz in an 80. but i dont know any more and havent found out who it is yet.Has anyone done a conversion like this to there 80?
does anyone know if the t-case will bolt up to the transmission (auto), or do you use the standard cruiser auto with new bell housing to the 1uz?
any info at all is appreciated.
If any-one knows who it is (or if its true) fill us in!
Mine old one had a lexus v8 in it. It needed lower diffs with 35's. I reckon my 4.5 goes harder.simkell wrote:Has anyone done a conversion like this to there 80?

The simplest gearbox to use is the early 1HDT auto. It is basically the same as the later ones except not electronically controlled, therefore you do ot need a computer to run the auto. The 1UZ bellhousing bolts to it, i have one under the house fitted together ( I was thinking of using the 2UZ with 1UZ heads etc but lost interest). I don't think it's possible to get the electronic auto to work as the computer for the auto and 1FZFE are in the same box. I have not yet tried a conversion to see it the elecftronic auto would work as a stand alone unit with the engine wires disconnected. In other words a 1UZ with its own ECU running independant to the elctronic auto computer. Unless you can get a late model multivalve auto electronic auto as the IHDT-FT are a manual pump still therefore the box should operate independantly.
V8 sounded good though
The power is great on a 1uzfe...but they are low on torque...the exact opposite to a 3f. When Toyota looked in their parts pile for a replacement to the 3f, they decided to cut a 1uzfe into a 1fzfe...do a google on the 1fzfe and you will come up with the article...more torque to pull the weight. How would a 1gzze go in a 80...plenty of power...(twin turbo 2 litre 205kw's at 5800 rpm)
I have done a bit more looking around and the 1uz has more power and torque than the 3f. however they always only give peak figures so i don't know how it would perform across the rev range.
At the moment i am still leaning to the 1uz over the 4.5lt. however i did find
3UZ-FE which is a 4.3lt. has heaps of power and torque, but the availability is low. so i'm still at the 1uz.
i was thinking of using the auto from the donor vehicle as this should simplify the wiring a little. and the fact of bell housing etc. but will the t-case bolt up to the auto? That will more than likely be my biggest issue. If anyone knows please let us know.

Replace the 3.9L or 4.0L straight six with a 1UZ
more power, similar torque and uses less fuel.... You can always change tyres/gearing later, but trust me, it is a sweet conversion for that vehicle.
Just use the 4.0L all alloy engine as it is cheaper and more readily available.
